How do you clean under your hood?

I use the 'engine spray' selection at the coin wash, then rinse with low pressure cold water, then wipe every thing down as best I can at home.
Just make sure to cover up the intake. I usually use a platic bag, or stuff some microfibre cloths in there.

I use a toothbrush and simple green, just spray it down after. I don't cover anything at all but do try to avoid spraying directly on the air filter.

I follow these general steps especially the part about never detailing a hot engine.

0. never detail a hot engine. you could crack your block.
1. cover intakes and electrical.
2. degrease.
3. brushes to remove the deeper seated stuff.
4. rinse off.
5. high temp sealant/wax on the metal.
6. rub on a vinyl/rubber sealant.

Here's a fuller explanation:

I use soapy water in a spray bottle and spray it onto one of those blue automotive paper towels and wipe everything by hand. I then polish up the plenum and intake :4tongue:

I had my car detailed by somebody who does it in his spare time, and I cringed when he soaked the whole thing in degreaser and then sprayed Armor-all everywhere.

I also cringed when he used an orbital to apply wax. Needless to say I've done everything myself since then :err:

I guess I've been doing it wrong.:embarrassed: It's just easy and it works..

there's a DIY thread on g35driver. lots of pics and pretty much a step by step. i'll be doing it this weekend. for the most part most of it is applicable to any VQ35.
