2006 Infiniti FX45
Like the title says.. I'm brand new to the Infiniti scene.. I just bought a 2006 FX45... I had a GMC envoy before this and really missed having something a lil flashy (and fast) I had a Supercharged BMW M3 that I had featured in a couple magazines back in the day.. I used to be a moderator on bimmerforums.com so this isn't my first rodeo but I def. look forward to learning about some stuff here and hope to offer up some of my own skills in the near future.. Quick first question... anyone else have the cracks in the leather on the driver side of the seat? This was the 4th one I looked at that had those cracks/tares.. Is there a fix?

I'll post pics once I hit the "10 post limit" But its black w/ brick interior

Crap... bad first post... Can I get a move from the mods.. my bad fellas, didn't see the NewB category..

Welcome :iS2:
The cracks in the side of the seat is common. The best way to get it fixed up is to take the seat cover off the seat and take it to upholstery shop to have them sew replacement piece on. You may already have figured out, the sides are not leather.

Thread moved. Welcome to the scene. A few people have had some tears in their seats; there's a thread about it here, but I'm on phone so can't find it for you. Best solution is to have it redone.

I have the "rust" interior.. is that gonna be a prob to match you think? Ive seen vids on stitching it together with another piece underneath but I'm thinking there needs to be some sort of reinforcement under there.. I can totally see why it would crack/tear seeing how it gets smashed and stretched every time you get in and out of the car..

"rust" = "brick" interior  Yeah, that may be a bit tricky. My also have the brick interior and the driver seat side has a couple small cracks too. I think I will try to use the 3M vinyl repair kit since the cracks still very small.

I always called it a "peanut butter" when I saw pictures but in person its def. a brick  I was gonna try the 3m as well but I have a full on tare.. I used that 3m repair on my bimmer.. It does work but I think on the brick it would be pretty noticeable. I had black leather in the m3 so it blended pretty well. I have a buddy that works at an upholstery shop so I will bring it by him sometime next week.. maybe he can come up with a cheap fix I can forward to everyone else with the same prob.

Awesome. There are a few black one got repaired and turn out very nice. I'll be looking out on your repair and see how close the brick turns out.

Welcome to IS! Rust, Peanut Butter, Brick, Baseball glove, cowhide, whatever you call it, everyone loves it! I'm surprised a 2006 Brick is cracking. I think its very durable compared to the other leather Infiniti used. At this point you should definitely start with cleaning and conditioning the leather so it doesn't get worse. I condition my Brick every few months and it still looks and smells new.

Thanks for the Welcomes guys.. Yah I was surprised that this was so bad myself. I have always been kinda anal when it came to cleaning my cars and I have already applied some conditioner (just brought it home yesterday and they did a full detail before i picked it up) I am guessing the guy that owned it before me wasn't a big car cleaning guy. Looking at the dealer maintenance records it looks like he just relied on them to clean/vac it every time. I'm just glad he treated the motor better with the maintenance he did do.. Its got 69k on it and the pass seat looks like its never been touched as well as the back seats... You can see how bad they are in the pic below..

Hey, there she is. Her body looks nice and shiny. Yeah, the seat tears pretty bad. Mine is an 04 and there only a a couple of cracks. I don't consider mine are tears yet. Definitely taken it out and get it to an upholstery shop will be the best way. Taking the seat a part is straight forward for a guy like you. Just don't start the car once the seat yellow airbag plug is disconnected; otherwise, you will get the pesky airbag light. There is a DYI to turn it off without a trip to the dealer :)

Edit:
I meant to say, don't turn the key to accessory. It will trigger the airbag light with the connector unplug.

I just bookmarked the DYI! Thanks!

Thought I would show what I came from.. All work done by myself with the close supervision of a really good friend of mine! ;-) I have some connections all over so hopefully I can contribute like I did on bimmerforums.. I was involved in the original "angel eyes" before every car ended up with them, also have a guy that can mold carbon fiber as you can see from the pics.

:good: Nicely done! The CF in the Bimmer, are they molded or overlay the stock parts? They look awesome.

Welcome to :iS:. You got a nice clean ride in there. Yeah, it looks like you have some work to do with those seats. You have a nice set up with your bimmer.

The dash was a molded overlay meaning it laid over the dash and was held in place by pressure basically. was a lot easier than removing the dash.. everything else was a replacement part. He made a mold of just about everything I sent him (seat backs, door panels, headliner, center console) my full interior was carbon. Man i miss this car LOL!

Nice. I wanted to overlay my interior pieces (door handles, center console & steering wheel)with CF. Have been reading about it. Just need to find sometime to get it started. Given what you done to your Bimmer. I'm sure you miss her. What makes decided to let her go?

Kids...

Wife let me have a couple bikes in between to help with my speed addiction, but she really wanted an Envoy so thats what she got. Now shes got her "mom" ride and I got to get a little something for myself again.. I needed another project..

Yah after looking at the interior i def. see some parts I would like to mold as well. I'm gonna shoot my guy an e-mail and see what hes up to (been a while since we have talked) Only downfall is that I have to send him the parts and I used to work at a Car parts place and we had a "high end" junk yard so I could grab pieces from out there and send them to him so I wouldn't have to use my own. I'll figure something out though.. I'm sure there would be some interest here..
