Has anybody mounted a 7-8" tablet on their dash? Where did you mount it?

I plan to run one as a GPS/Display for my radar detector. Has to be very close to line-of-sight while driving. I'm leaning towards near the drivers right side vent such as this:

Any other opinions/options/mount manufacturer suggestions?

I could build my own, but with the number of 7" and 8" android tablets out there I am sure somebody has developed a clean mount so I dont need to reinvent the wheel. FWIW I am running an Ipad Mini but I can modify a commercially available mount to suit.

Leaning towards making something if I can't find a good mount - wondernig how I can attach it to the dash (non permanently). Building a fiberglass pod would be super easy. Love the magents:

Found a great place to put my Ipad. The 04 has a cassete player cover door that folds down and with the back half of my otter box cover on the Ipad it just sits there with no mounting. The only issue was that ocasionally it would interfere with radio contrils on dash so I am going to figure out some kind of spacer for back of otter box. But all in all worked pretty sweet.
Drove around with it today and it never moved. ----

I'll take a pic tomorrow but I have mine mounted on a Rammount floor pod (http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-316-1-238U). I made my own magnetic mount by machining a piece of 1/2inch black PVC sheet, embedding 2 high strength flat round magents from KJ Magnetics and then attaching two thinner ones to the inside of my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 tablet case.

So basically I just slap the tablet onto the mount and it's solid and also self aligning (due to the polarity of the magnets).

I used magnets to attach my tablet over the stock GPS in my 04. The brand was steelie. They have multiple options for the mounting magnets, some have posts some are just domes.

This shows the back of the tablet and the mounts adhered above the stock screen

i was gonna buy some steelie for my phone untill i saw the round thing you stick to your phone. too bulky. i do like the scosche concept

I agree they are too bulky for your phone. They stick out about a 1/4 inch. I'm very happy with their function with the tablet which I only use in the fx. You could probably adhere them to a phone case that you leave in the car if you normally use your phone without a case
