Handy_Andy's Mini Meets

No prob HA, family first. The kido bind syndrome has effected Lola as well. My mechanic finally had a chance to take a look at mine. The cause of the spring pop noise is definitely from the pillow ball not rotating properly. Upon examination passenger side was siezed and the driver side was barley turning in a juttering fashion. This ultimately causes the spring to move instead of the pillow ball, making the twang sound when you turn the wheel at a stop or low speeds. Changing the spring preload higher will help by creating more tension but not remedy the problem. We gave the pillow balls a heavy soaking of pb blaster and after sitting all day smeared some white lithium grease around the joint as much as possible. I would say the sound is now 90 percent gone, hopefully over time the lube will work in all the way. If not, it's live with it or buy new ones. I was trying to think what might be the cause for this. Moisture or water has to be the culprit. I power wash my motor during cleanings so I would suggest not getting the top of the coilover wet as much as possible. I'm sure humidity can also cause some corrosion around the joint.

I RECOMMEND TO ALL COILOVER OWNERS KEEP YOUR BALLS LUBED UP!

KEEP YOUR BALLS LUBED UP!

That's sound advice for anyone. :)

So I'm been hitting my entire assembly with WD-40 and the sound stopped a couple days ago, now it's come and gone before so who knows, but I think tearing them down and greasing everything is probably the way to go. I've been getting at them from underneath and every few days loading up the entire assembly from the engine bay. It certainly seems to have helped for the time being.

Mini install meet at 10 tomorrow morning. If anyone interested, you're welcome to swing by. The plan is to replace Justin's brake pads and install VELD Switchback onto Rip's ride.

Nice one fellas..

This spring/summer I'll be needing your help with spring swap if you're willing. Have you been practicing with your paint gun? I have a few pieces :-)

It was a quick meet, but here is a sneak pic of Andy taking a look at the rear brakes.

And a quick glimpse of some second gen modding.
