h&r sport or eibach pro lowering kit?

I'm going through this very same dilemma now...

Some random thoughts from my research:

Eibachs are more firm
Eibachs sit slightly lower
Eibachs are tuned more towards a sportier ride
Eibachs are stiffer and less refined over harsh road surfaces

H&R are not as firm
H&R sit slightly higher
H&R offer a much better compromise between performance and everyday refinement
H&R have a better perceived image for quality products

All my other cars have H&R suspension and I have always been very happy with their products which are 1st class. But I'm struggling here to make a decision. Performance is the overriding factor for me even though I would prefer to go with H&R setup.

Are the Eibachs that much more superior in the twisties???

Are you going to track the FX? If so, you might feel the handling difference, if not, the difference is insignificant.. Eibachs may help you take a highway merge lane 3-4 mph faster than the H&Rs and that'll be it mostly.. I'd rather get better comfort on the potholes than a 3mph difference.. Add in the GTSpec braces and the difference will be even less..

edit: Also, since you live in Chicago and since there's plenty of snow & salt over there, take a look at the thread below.. It probably won't happen to anybody except a couple of unlucky people but two people in one forum is a good enough cause to worry me, IMO.

ya the 2 people in one forum is scary, but two people out of how many eibach FX users? then we are looking at an even smaller number. there was some tie to each other though that kinda explained the issue. read up on it and you will know if it is a problem that can affect you or not.

EG3,

I think you pretty much rationalized everything for me right there. No, I won't ever track my FX. And yes my FX will be supplemented by some GTSpec products. Plus it would be nice to have some better overall ride quality especially for Chicago roads and up in the Rockies I guess. If the difference in performance is that minimal I will most likely go with the H&R setup.

yea ken told me a place in irvine auto center that is sellin me the eibach pro kit and labor and alignment for only 450 =]

and yea my choice was to go for the eibach going to ask him to lower it 2 inches =]

You will not be disappointed. LA roads call for Eibachs.
Biggest drop & stellar handling. I dont find them harsh at all. I knew I wasnt buying a Cadillac

Just last week, a buddy of mine was riding with me & commented how plush the ride was on the interstate. I concur . . great road trip car

yea for sure and at that price i wont sad spending that money
cause stillen was about to charge me 750 for labor alignment and the kit
stillen almost screwed me over

Off topic -

But a couple weeks back when we had that meet in San Diego....the first meeting point was @ Stillen, and they were handing out free Stillen Shirts and when the girl came to me and I told her no thanks.

I have Eibach's and there's no way a softer, more lush ride handles better. I do agree the difference might be minimal if you're not doing auto-x or similar, and I plan on switching from Eibachs to H&R because the ride quality is kinda low... it's too rough for me :embarrassed:

I have to mention that the ride quality on my FX has GREATLY increased due to the new shocks and struts. So I think you can still achieve better ride quality from this mod and not necessarily from changing out the springs to H&R.

I say get the H&R's no question about it. Here are my thoughts:
1) H&R's are just as "sporty" as Eibach's. Both are progressive springs, it's just that Eibach's seem to be pretty firm throughout the entire spring compression where H&R's are softer under "normal" load. Once you hit a the threshold or compression, both will firm up pretty similiarly, i.e. H&R's become very firm on turns. Therefore:
Smoothness: H&R>Eibach
Under load: H&R=Eibach

2) H&R: DROP (F/R): 1.3" / 1.2"
Eibach: DROP (F/R): 1.2" / 1.2"

H&R's are a lower drop in the front.

I've had my H&R's for 50,000 miles plus driving in Chicago and no issues or complaints. Ride is much better than stock.

Smoothness: H&R>Eibach
Under load: H&R=Eibach
Have you ever had Eibachs on your FX? I don't think anybody can confirm this unless they've used both in the same application. I still plan on swapping out to H&Rs and I'll give it a hard run before and after to see for myself...
