Couldn't the rafters be spaced 16 on center so you can put bat insulation and then cover it with drywall (screwed into the rafters)? It would get rid of the strapping no? Not sure if that's code or not..

It's much cheaper to go with engineered trusses on 24" centres with strapping on 16" centres than it is to go with trusses on 16" centres.
My walls are 2x6 's on 16" centres.

Makes sense. Or they could just make bat insulation for 24" :-)

Lol, They do make 24" batts, that's what I'll be using in the ceiling. The drywall will be screwed onto the ceiling on 16" centres, that gives it a lot more rigidity.

Hahaha, as Tim can confirm I am not an insulation guru that's for sure. I agree that it would be more secured 16 vs 24, but I was thinking that it would be more than adequate for a garage, especially since it's not load bearing.. In any case, looks huge and I bet you can't wait 'till she's done.

Right on, I am getting excited. The rear man door was delivered today.
Yesterday I washed the FX in there with Optimum No Rinse. Only used 2 two gallon pails of water, it's going to be nice doing this in bad weather. I'm not worried about changing to my snows this year either. I can hardly wait, no more outdoor work on the cars.

I hear ya Wayne. Having a garage especially of the size great. There was a time when we didn't have one (well rather it was filled with stuff) and it sucked. Cold car in the morning in winter, hot in summer, no place to work on it etc.

Thanks guys, the funny thing is, this project started as a carport and it has progressed into a garage. That's why it's taking longer, I keep modifying the plans.

Throw in a gas furnace will complete the job Wayne. I got myself one of those ventless wall hanging unit. I only turn it on when I have to be in the garage in the winter time. Best $50 (got it used, but still new to me from CL) that I ever spent on the garage. :smile (2):

^^ Wow Pat, that is so cool. I actually could have done that because my garage has a full 8' high foundation underneath it. The only extra thing I would have needed is lots MORE money.

I thought I would show the progress of my garage. I have the insulated front garage door ordered. it will get here in 3-4 weeks. I wil wait to redo and widen the driveway next Spring.

The walls and ceiling were insulated and drywall was installed (used green board), joints are now being taped.

My poor FX is waiting to come in.

Looks nice Wayne! Do u have before shots of the property?

Are those things on the roof to prevent ice from falling?

Looks great. I love how well the carport has progressed!
That last picture - was taken from about the same place where you used to park?

Thanks Jonas, I had before shots and during the construction but they were lost when We lost a pour hard drive. I'll have to dig some up. Yes, those are snow stops, to prevent the snow from dumping off the steel tile roof all at once. The roof is guaranteed for 50 years, and you never have to worry about snow load.

Thanks Pork, yes it morphed into a garage quite nicely with a nice shelter before the garage door. We will have a 12' shelter or mini carport before we enter the garage.
As to the last picture of the back, You were close, I used to park about 10' further back.
