Gas Gauge Level Fix

Thanks for the great DIY. Was completely empty(with 30 Miles to empty) according to the gauge before and after doing this:

Just did this on my M, guess on my M it wasn't that dirty because it read the same before and after.

Also, I recommend depressurizing the fuel line by pulling the fuel pump fuse and starting the vehicle until the motor dies. This way you won't have as much fuel shooting out of the line when you disconnect it, fuel tank level will make no difference on the amount of fuel that is in the lines.

Update it looks line my fuel line was sandwich between the floater arm not allowing it go down all the way, also this time I didn't start the car at all rolled it out on the driveway and had 0 gas come out fuel pump

i just bought a used 2006 fx45 and when i filled her up the fuel gauge went berserk and flipped 365 degrees around and is stuck how do we get the needle to loosen it self from the end to the start point . willl the cleanup release the needle in the gas gauge meter in the dash ??? pls help us the car is out of warranty .....thankyou and happpy new 2012 to alll............

LoL, berserk fuel gauge needle. Sorry to hear about that. Only thing I can think of is to physically remove the cluster, opening it up and the just moving the needle.

Yeah, if the needle stuck, the only way is to take the cluster off the steering column and try to shake it a little to see if it break free. If not, you might have to take it all apart to free it. The cluster is very easy to take off the column. It held down by four 10 mm bolts and then unplug a connector on the back once you unclip the fabric piece. Let me know if you want me to take some picture of the bolts.

Mine acting up again this morning. While driving the gauge indicator drop from half to empty. Took the pump and send out, clean them up again. The gauge is showing half tank again. I'm curious what caused all the build up on the lead.

Cheap Sam's gas I buy, probably algae.... I noticed it right away at fill up. Gauge just didn't spring up to full+ like normal. Worked normal the next day. Going to try doing one side only first and try to bend the contact in a hair for more pressure, but not til the weekend after I run the tank down. I think it's just one side that is acting up, readings averaged between the two senders. Just a thought, but why does it need 2 senders anyway? Suppose one is for the gauge and the other for DTE? DTE reads as expected.

Did the driver side (only) again today. After reassembly, I noticed that when the sender was unplugged, gauge read zero but DTE read normal. I used a pair of tiny screwdrivers to try and bend the contact just a bit to increase contact pressure (a delicate procedure) and used a piece of brown paper grocery bag to burnish the wiper contact. We'll see if that's helps this time.

OK, so with the driver's side sender disconnected, gauge read zero and DTE was blank. Still seemed to be able to calculate the mileage, I guess via the computer. So I guess it tells me nothing.

both senders are used together and averaged out by the computer because we have a very wide tank design with 2 different chambers, very much as if there were 2 tanks. knowing how much is in just one or the other is not enough to know anything
