Garage Door Opener (Homelink) Programming

yeah, you have to be pretty close to open. I pull up to my house, press the home link to open. Then turn my FX around and back her in to the garage. I thought I would be able to open it from like down the street.

I have an '09 FX & had no problems programming my homelink to handle my Garage door, Community Gate, and my Parents community gate. I used the remotes in each case. Simply place the remotes within inches of the mirror & hold the remote button down at the same time the homelink buttons are held down. THen wait until the homelink light flashes rapidly. In a couple of cases I had to wait about 1-2 minutes before the lights flashed.
 
Thread resurrection! Does anyone know if the garage door signal is anyway connected to the front roof antennae on the 1st gen? I have tried everything ( held both outer buttons down to deprogram, used the master door opener as instructed, nothing) to program it and finally walked away. Wondering if I possibly disabled it when I yanked the antennae...
