G37 / FX50 Akebono Brake Retrofit

Do you have a gen 1 FX?

My knowledge on the gen 1 is limited as I did this BBK on my gen 2.
For the front, yes, the calipers are direct bolt-on. Obvious, you want the BBK brake rotor as well. Verify that the calipers have brake pads with the retainer clips and their two pins. The bottom 2/3 of this picture:

You can reuse the two mounting bolts to mount the calipers to your FX. The original and BBK use the same mounting bolts. You will need aftermarket brake lines. Your original brake lines will not fit, and the ones come with G37Xs have different mount points, so they won't work either. Once you mount the BBK rotor, you'll notice the brake dust shield is too small. I just used some pliers to bend it back.

For the rear, the setup on the gen 1 is more complex. There is a PDF somewhere in this thread that outlines all the parts you will need. One major component is the knuckle. After you have the knuckle and hub sorted out, same procedure as above applies.

Since this thing is parting out, I can get all the necessary parts of this vehicle as I will be there when it's being taken off. I can get the rotors and pads and those pins of the G as well.

What I need to know is would the knuckle and hub from G37xs fit the FX as a direct swap?
I can't seem to find that PDF tho, guess I can look through the thread again

No. You will need a knucle from a 2nd Gen FX. The one from a G37 will not work.

Oh, I forgot to mention. With the G37xs rear rotors, you will lose e/parking brakes as the rotors will not fit unless you remove the e-brake components from the hub. I just bought gen 2 FX rear rotors to retain the e-brake feature.

Yea I don't know if I wanna mess around with this at all. Seems like too much headache for just a daily driven car that only my wife will drive in a year. Only reason I was contemplating doing this is because I found all the parts for dirt cheap. Not looking to spend 1000s on this

Rears also need the custom adapters that used to be made by turbocad + the FX knuckle. I bought the adapters then decided it was too much work to source the rest of the stuff out and run just the fronts which are the same across the platforms.

^ I was thinking that too, maybe I can run just the fronts. I am still debating if I wanna run spacers all year round.

Do the fronts for sure. Soooo easy. They bolt on like they belong there. Rears are debatable if they add all that much to your stopping power anyway. I run mismatched and have no bias issues.
Stopping feel, power & fade resistance is a world of difference with just those fronts. They're that good.

. . & If you decide not to do those rears, could you get a price for me anyway? I may do it just for looks. THX
I picked up the TurboCAD adapters a while back and they've been sitting in a box

Anyone have a set of Turbocad adapters that they're willing to part with??

What's up scene!

I just purchased a Akebono BBK kit from a fellow member here and I got a question regarding the required spacers I need to clear the Akebonos. What would be the minimum required spacers needed to clear my stock 18" wheels?

On the 2nd Gen, for the front, you'll need at least 15mm. For the rear, you don't need any. Rear Akebono BBK will clear.
For the 1st Gen, I don't know... :(

Thanks for the info! Since I don't want to get extended studs what spacer do you recommend that wouldn't interfere with my stock wheel (mounting wise)

If you want bolt on spacers, you may run into clearance issues. Hard to tell but the pockets in the OEM wheels don't look very deep so the OEM studs may hit. The spacers use a thin nut but there isn't much that can be done for the OEM stud. 15mm is the thinnest bolt on spacer I believe, at least that was the thinnest at the time I bought them. If you run 20 or 25's, the clearance will be better.

Does the Akebono clear 18"s? It's a big caliper and I've never checked.

Gen1 FX35/45 with oem 18's requires 15mm spacers. Confirmed from my experience using winter setup.

Perfect that was my concern too ! But I'm glad they clear. What spacer do you use? Did you use extended bolts or a bolt on spacer?

Guys i picked up 370z Nissan Akebono front calipers. Need details on what to buy. Does 03-08 stock caliper/hub mounts work with bbk caliper? Do i need to still shorten stoptech ss lines banjo bolt?
Also can someone give me the link for the hardware kit that i need? I bought blank calipers without any shims or brackets. Lastly, i believe stock 20s require spacers above 15mm right?
Thanks

What I can assure you is that it bolts up like if it belongs there on the caliper mounts. I'm sure somebody will chime in about the other items your requesting since I don't know them from the top of my head.
