G37 / FX50 Akebono Brake Retrofit

Wow.. Just another mod that I will need to save up for to get done.

Again thanks and I am glad that you are sharing your progress with us. Glad to have you as OUR resident FX butcher....

Back to topic ....

Is that ball joint you fabricated gonna be available from if someone decides to do this mod?

no man, no celebrity... no nothing really... just love to play with my cars, that's all:tongue:

the balljoint seats will be available from joe at infinitipartsusa... not to sure if he'll want to sell them seperate but if a situation came up I'd see what I can do... for example if you winded up getting used brakes & rotors from a g37s, then you would just need the rear knuckles & balljoint seats... I guess he would do that.. I won't even have any of these on hand myself really... just the 2 he'll send me after he gets them.

hmm.... B. B. K.......

From what I'm reading on MyG37.com is there is no after market rotors for the G37s as of yet. What some have done is to buy oem rotors direct from brakeperformance.com. Who machine a oem rotor to your liking, drill, dimple or slot. http://www.myg37.com/forums/showthread.php?t=182348&highlight=rotors

http://brakeperformance.com/site/brake_rotors.php?&ad=direct

Also these guys say they are top of the line brakes.

Amazing how persistent you are Turbo at getting these to work. Thanks for sacrificing your time for the benefit of us all.:top:

I looked fora place to machine/drill the oe's but found nothing really with a brief google, that's a great alternative, borrowed these from there

with that, the only real thing that seperates these from great performance rotors are the weight & not having directional veins internally. real high performance multi piece rotors may never become available for the stock calipers, but that would really make these every bit as good as a 5-6k kit... still a very fair trade off I'd say even with the extra rotor mass...

these brakes get great feedback in the g37, but the fx is probably 500 lb's heavier too... these rotors look pretty decent & the machining will help keep them cooler. maybe joe can sell kits without rotors? maybe he can get these rotors? still might be the issue of them offering for the g37s but not the fx50s... then, who's willing to sacrifice there parking brake?

a quick word of advice to everyone, I'd say don't run out & grab a used set just yet, there are several things you'll need in addition to them & don't be surprised if in the end you don't save anything going used & wind up with more headaches too... trust me, in trying to get this whole kit togeather I've winded up having to take my fx apart & put it back togeather so many times ... think I wore my lugnuts out really.

this is AWESOME news!! i was thinking that the rears wouldn't work and i didn't want to just put the fronts on and have the mismatched calipers.

i've been saving my pennies for awhile - and i'm gonna pull the trigger on these. i may have to post my "used calipers and rotors" in the for sale section first =)

sweet ron.

Turbo, you da man! May I suggest the option of stainless steel brake lines with the kit? I think that'll be a nice topping on the cake

He said he found a way to use existing brake lines. I'm assuming the Stoptech stainless lines will work as well?? If so, it'll be awesome.

just a quick question, what's the timeframe look for making this kit available? my front brake pads are on their last legs.....

the fronts are about ready to go, I'll talk to joe today & try to get him to nail down an exact price on the fronts, maybe you can get them as soon as this week? the rears are still several weeks out at this point...

you could also do what I did as I was working on mine, the rears were so dead that I couldn't wait any more, just grabbed a cheap $15 set of pads to buy me a few weeks... did the job & now I just toss them out...

what the heck? i posted a reply here and it never appeared.

anyway, that's good to know. i wouldn't mind converting the fronts over and waiting on the backs as long as the price is going to be as juicy as we all hope it will be.

i have about 2 weeks of life left on my fronts before its gets really really low.

I have the bracket from Zack and I am the first coupe to have these brakes.Actually Zacks friend in Japan was the first to have them on his sedan. I have had these on for a few months now. . I'm also looking to put these brakes on the FX. My brakes are in Florida right now. I expect them back in a week..Thanks for your hard work. I thought I might have to use the front bracket(picture below) on the FX. So the fronts are direct bolt on just like the sedan? The rear is what needs that adapter? I can tell you I Love these brakes on my G. Thanks again for your work..Sorry if I sound like a FX noob. So all I need to order is the rear adapter? (I have my employee discount@infiniti for the brakes and rotors).

this is the bracket. There are special bolts that make the kit work.

hey, I was away for a bit but I'm getting back into trying to get this finished up for you guys.

that bracket does look cool. on the fx no bracket is necessary for the fronts as they just pretty much bolt on. in the rears the possibility of a bracket may be there but since it's not impractical to just replace the whole rear spindle that seems to be the best approach. ideally we were trying to do this with 100% all OEM parts but the ball joint seat was the only real obstacle as something that needed to be sourced outside of infiniti. it's a whole lot easier to develop this ball joint seat than it would be to develop a bracket really. there isn't anywhere near as much room to work with in the rears for a bracket development & it would be pretty difficult to have a bracket setup designed, of course not impossible, but the ball joint seat just seemed to be the better way to go really & much more straight forward.

I've been driving my fx for a while now with the rear ball joint in the incorrect hole of the 09 ball joint seat. I will take it apart soon for inspection to see just how the wear is taking it's toll, this is the problem with this seat not being a perfect mate... every time there is any side to side or accelerate/ decelerate the stresses on this ball joint seat will allow a slight amount of movement, which translates to stresses, wear & eventual loosening up of this critical mount, which is why this really can't be sold to the public in the as-is incorrect configuration. Joe is supposed to be ordering these seats but I haven't really spoken to him since before my trip to Florida, so a few weeks now. I just called him & left a voice mail, so I should have some more info soon for you guys... as far as I know where we left off the fronts should have been ready already, so I'll find out what the deal is there too...
