G37 / FX50 Akebono Brake Retrofit

think there going to be really affordable too... I came up with a way of using the stock brakelines & well be able to use the stock parking brake too. upper control arms not necissay any more in the rear, I designed a custom balljoint seat to mate the early balljoint to the late knuckle... def gonna be right in that 2k range complete...

ball joint seats are being manufactured for the rears, prolly 3-4 weeks before there available in hand... fronts will be available even sooner, almost right now... tommorow I'll go over some final stuff with joe & there are still 2 very minor hardware issues to work out, but were pretty much good to go...

I smell GB coming on soon! Btw, great job with all of this John!

Cant believe you got all this to work.
Nice job & That looks like a good fit.

Hey John, could you tell us the exact dimensions for those front rotors? Maybe we can find an aftermarket replacement if we know the diameter x thickness in mm.

this is AWESOME news!! i was thinking that the rears wouldn't work and i didn't want to just put the fronts on and have the mismatched calipers.

i've been saving my pennies for awhile - and i'm gonna pull the trigger on these. i may have to post my "used calipers and rotors" in the for sale section first =)

Can we do a poll??

Vote John for :iS: Hall of fame?

Nice work as always dude ... :top::top::top::top:

I have just reading the thread to catch up. Great job John! can't wait to see the final out come.

I wish I can photoshop....

Hahah... true true... I still wanna know what the possibilities will be for aftermarket rotors for this thing. I can't get a BBK without slots

ha, you guys are too funny

guys, I really appreciate the praise, but I really didn't do anything so overwhelming here to be honest... the brake lines are a pretty simple thing & just require slightly shorter banjo bolts, most everything else is just sorting out hardware & misc parts... mostly bolt on. the biggest "custom" thing here really is the ball joint seat. I did this cad design & redesigned the ball joint seat with emachineshop.com really cool software & ordering system there for custom manufacturing parts... I designed it & Joe ordered like 50 pieces for the first run. he will now have an exclusive on these retrofits mainly because of this, joes been really great to work with & it's cool that he's gonna have these exclusively as far as I'm concerned, he also gives the best prices too so it's a good situation there. I won't share this ball joint seat design with anyone as joe has been good to me. it also wouldn't be cost effective in small quantities anyway so it's really best to just get them from him anyway.

as far as aftermarket rotors, the fronts are the exact same rotors as the g37S, so I'm sure these will be available soon... actually both calipers & the front rotors are exactly the same as the g37s. The rear rotors however are a bit different from the g37s, the parking brake is larger on the fx than the g37S, so g37s rotors will also work in the rear, but the parking brake won't. if your willing to sacrifice the parking brake then g37s rotors all around should be a solution that will come soon... however, to get fx specific rear rotors aftermarket performance may be a bit less in demand... who knows if & when they will do the fx specific ones out back...

I may try to retrofit the g37s parking brake when rotors become available for them, but this will be custom work & not a matter of just different bolt on parts really... I have already driven the fx on g37s rear rotors for at least a few weeks so I know it will work, just not compatible with fx parking brake shoes...

one thing I can say is the factory rotors are HEAVY... my rotora rotors are much lighter. funny thing is, the new front rotors are the same dimensions as the rotora rotors, so I can actually use OE fx50 front rotors with my rotora calipers, but it won't work the other way around. you can't use the rotora rotors with the new fx calipers cause the rotora 2 piece rotors have a larger center section & the fx calipers hit it, but the 2 piece design with the aluminum center hat of the rotoras are much lighter, I wish they worked, that would have been the ultimate retrofit... I'm pretty sure performance rotors will come soon for the g37s though, be nice if a 2 piece rotor became available, but for the price of these brakes a little extra weight in the rotors is a fair trade off really...

Do you think it would be ok just to do the front retro? My concern is brake bias and more money.
If its ok then it would be half as much?:ooh:

edge, I'll try to get you the exact dimension but there's more to it than just that, offset, bolt patterns, rotor clearance etc... I wouldn't think it'd be easy to find something to fit that no one knows about really... best shots right now may be an other aftermarket bbk rotor other than rotora as I already confirmed they won't work... who else makes a 14.1" bbk for the nissans? those would be the possibilities there I would guess, but it would be hard to do, would have to buy a rotor & try it, repeat as necissary... don't sound like a fun adventure there:err:

fronts only will be less than half as much... the rears are a bigger part of the overall costs as they require knuckles & backing plates too. bias will not be an issue & many guys will probably get just the fronts too... really great bang for the buck there...
