Has anyone here replaced the valve/rocker cover gaskets on the vq50? Tried searching here but wasn't able to find anything. I have 118k miles and just started getting a bit of a burning smell when I stop after driving. I looked under the car and I have a leak coming down from the back of the head on the passenger side. I am going to take a closer look but I am hoping its just the cover gasket. Just looking for any advice. I have the service manual and pretty sure I can handle the repair.
Thanks

That's insanely cheap. On the 35 and 45 you had to change valve covers, which were about 20x as expensive.

Funny you replied today I was going to update the post and say that I have not done anything with this yet. The leak seems to have stopped and I’ve had my hands full with a new baby.

Is the gasket part of the valve cover on the 35/45 or was the cover the problem?

I believe the issue was that the valve covers had non-replaceable spark plug tube seals, to replace them you had to get new valve covers or use a hole saw to cut the old ones out and then use an older style gasket from a different engine. It looks like the VK50 gasket includes the spark plug tube seals.

I finally got around to replacing the leaking gasket on the passenger side. I disconnected a fuel line and removed a few of the breather/vacuum lines to make room. I removed the throttle body but left the coolant lines attached. The FSM called for some liquid gasket maker to be used at the corners so I picked up some Permatex Ultra Grey for that.

Tools:
10mm swivel socket
10mm offset wrench
In-lbs torque wrench
Pliers

The gaskets were just over $15 each.

You can see here most everything that I removed. Did not remove the airbox just the intake hose. Still need to remove coil packs and bolts etc....plugs can stay in engine.

This was probably the hardest bolt to remove as there is very little clearance down there. 10mm offset wrench required.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm getting ready to do mine. 200K miles, it's been slowly leaking/burning smell for a couple months. I'm not looking forward to it - I expect scraped knuckles, but I've got an array of offset 10mm wrenches and a super-shallow 10mm wobbly bit and a long weekend. I'm glad to see you were able to do it with the intake on. I pulled the intake 4 years ago to do the starter, and I'd rather not pull it again if possible. I did it on my FX45, which had acres of room compared to the 50.

Thanks for the pics!
