FX45 electric fan conversion

Did you order Action Crash ($117.94) or Dorman fan ($111.98) off partsgeek for others who try this mod (i.e. which is the one John uses and trusts)?

The one that is en route to me is made by Silla and is part number SA6281.

I am going to inspect the Silla when it gets here and make a decision whether to mount it up and try it or just go with the one you did.

There are WAY too many radiator fan aftermarkets that are "OE direct fit". I am suspect a lot of them come from the same Chinese manufacturer and re-branded, but I could be wrong.

I couldn't find any reviews on Silla fans, only radiators which are mixed.

I wonder who makes the OEM Infiniti fan, Nissan itself or outsources it??

Also, any thoughts on mounting the Dakota Fan Controller inside the car? I can better monitor the temperature.

Okay.

Almost $50 shipped for the FX35 radiator fan harness on infinitipartsusa.com Almost puts me to what Lance paid, but still lower.

I noticed you can also buy fan parts separately (OEM), so if a motor goes, you can replace it with an OEM one as they should fit the OE Fit aftermarket fans.

Anyways, I'm definitely mounting the fan controller inside the car -- would be nice to see actual readings of the temperature as well.

Let me know how that goes. I will probably do this in the near future. If you need any help too let me know I'll walk on by.

Sorry man I don't have the exact name of the fan. I know its a replacement fan that is used by most shops, John (TC) recognized the name.....

I mounted it inside the sealed engine compartment box, drivers side. Once you set it you don't need to look at it again, its not like you are checking boost =) the temp gauge will tell you if you are having issues.

Finally got my car back (only for a few days, then going back in) and test out the cheap (in price) ebay fan.

I did a FULL day of testing, not intentional. I am moving and the movers said 9 AM - noon, and they showed up at 7 PM. Pick-up location was 3 hours away at a storage unit.

That means, I drove for 3 hours straight, then sat idle for 4 hours in 103 F weather. Then sat idle again for a few hours again on and off while I took breaks at Arby's and the gas station. So my living hell was a good test for the electric fan.

One fan turns on ~170 F, then two at ~180, turns off when not needed. You can actually hear one fan on, two fans on, then off. It is more quiet and cleaner looking with the e-fan.

Also, feeling how heavy the belt fan attached to the water pump, wow, I would hope 5-10 hp at the crank and 2.5-5 hp at the wheel. Maybe .25-1 mpg better? All I know is that the engine is more efficient.

Digital Dakota e-fan controller is through firewall and near the driver's seat foot area. Temp stays stable and never over heats.

Used a glass fuse.

Very happy with this mod. All FX45 owners should do this because where else can you find a e-fan that bolts right up!!

Who wants to be the first electric water pump conversion??? =)

Not sure if this helps anything, but the M45 has an electric fan.. Maybe this could also be used for a source of parts.

maybe on the ecu side of things as the only possibility, but going to be way more trouble than it's worth even if the M ecu is somewhat compatible... fan itself's gonna be different as the FX radiator support is taller than the cars so the rad & fan of course are taller too...

Jeff, good to know. Do you have the fsm to know how the cooling system operates? Still messing with when to start the one fan then kick in the second.

In hind sight I probably should have bought a thermostat that opens at 170 like the fx35 vs 180.

Here is the cooling section of the FSM, not sure if this is what you are looking for.

Section EC-678 describes Cooling Fan Control as performed by the ECM. The attached page goes into a little more detail.

Jeff, Tim -- thanks. This is exactly what I'm looking for. I was going off a VQ35DE e-fan controls since I didn't know there was one for a VK45DE. Going to slightly adjust the fan settings but it was pretty close.
