FX specific grouding kit

I wpoud just follow Gordon's wire path. Seems to make sense as well as any I've seen

Final kit dimensions were finished today. The ground points are not exactly as Gordon's kit. This FX kit has less redundancy and is not on display like some other kits. In fact, if you keep the engine cover on, you will only see a couple wires. This is a five wire kit.

1) There will be one wire coming from the battery and going to the passenger strut tower ground.

2) Then one wire from that strut tower point to the OEM ground you see in this below photo, a few inches below the grounding "octopus" on the side of the plenum. This OEM ground wire is tied both to the chassis and the front of the crank case.

3) Another wire from that same OEM grounding point will then connect to the driver side strut tower ground.

4) A wire will connect from the battery to the throttle body ground (on the TB, not the plenum)

5) And the final wire will connect from the throttle body to the transmission.

In this photo I have the battery to throttle body ground (#4) in place:

Kits will become available at the end of November. I am requesting all color options with some sample pictures so you guys can just make your choice. The color you see in the above photo is carbon. Since I started using carbon techflex on my hoses, I plan to make all the grounds black.

Shipped kit should be less than $100.

So far I think the people interested are:
1. Jumbo - black
2. Dopie - red
3. Bklynjohn718 - carbon
4. Stulax18 - color?
5.

If any of you guys have changed your mind about color or participation, just re-post the list with changes.

Jumbo will this clear your Rare JDM cover at the front. As i see the wires run towards the front of the engine were thatcover should be mounted.....??

The Rare JDM harness cover will cover these grounding wires without interference. The OEM grounding point on the crank case is hidden by the left side down bend on the cover. You will see one grounding kit wire running into the cover on the passenger side. This will be routed next to the main harness entering the cover at the same place.

On the driver side you will see another wire running out (same place the MAF wire runs out) to connect to the driver side strut tower ground location.

I've sketched it out here for better visualization:

So there's no fan or octopus of wires. It's basically two daisy chains. The crank case OEM ground being used already has a two wire ground running off it. So we're tying that ground directly to the battery and lowering resistance across the engine bay.

In this photo you might notice the OEM grounds that connect to the top front of the crank case are gone. Once the OEM harness brackets were removed, there was enough play to move those grounds to the same crank case ground we're using for the kit. You don't have to do this - but my thinking was I'd rather have a direct line to the battery rather than going through the metal of the crank case first. Plus, it tucks the wires which is sort of the point of the cover in the first place.

I'm liking the look of this. One more thing I know I read somewhere, but cleaning the current grounds while installing will help also. Someone (maybe Frank) said that just removing some of the oxidation and rust will help alot.

It looks like there is no grounding to the ECU ground, so no penetration on wiring harness required? Do you feel any faster response from the tranny or better radio? I have been looking for a FX specific grounding kit with no harness penatration if possible. Looks like this will be the one.

Update from the fab shop

Got an email today from the shop making the kits:

"I am in the process of ordering more wire for the extra pieces. My vendor is currently out of the high quality flexible wire I usually use. They sent me a sample of an alternate that arrived Monday. I don't like it. It is estimated to be the first week of December before the good stuff is back in stock. Hopefully everyone can be patient until then because I don't want to send out inferior quality work.

As far as colors I have black, red, white, blue, and a carbon fiber look as stock colors. I can custom order many more for an extra $20 and an additional week's time, just about every color. If folks want custom, let me know what colors and maybe I can order them so it arrives at the same time as the wire so there's no additional wait."

So in short, the colors he mentions will be the standard kit price. Any other color can be custom ordered for another 20 bucks. Also, these will probably be available to ship out just before the holidays. Think of it has a gift for yourself - or for your FX!

No wire harness penetration is required for this install. The aftermarket grounding cables are tying existing OEM grounding points on the crank case and strut towers directly to the battery, plus linking the TB and tranny. This is just providing a lower resistance path directly to the battery negative.

You will have to run two wires from the battery negative into the engine bay - the installation instructions suggest penetrating the rubber fitting where the large wire harness enters the engine bay from the battery compartment. I just used a drill bit, made a hole slightly smaller than the cable, then pulled it through the rubber. I'm not at all worried about moisture penetration, but if you wanted to be extra careful, you could seal it up with some silicone.

FYI-Hooked up my grounding wire kit yesterday. Smoother idle, crisper shifts......My ride seems to like it and the wire layout looks fine.
