FX 50 owners....I need your advice

Drove the 50 last night. Like the added punch but for a vehicle that has 11K miles on it, it was rough. Sil plates scratched, rear bumper scuffed, wood grain worn....just not well looked after. Disappointing actually.

It's funny how the ones with less miles typically are the ones in worse shape. Cars need to be driven and driven in combination with long distances. At work we buy cars and after a few years they only have 25-30 miles and have more problems and look soooo bad inside and outside beat to death than another same van with 120k miles. Those short trips and not using a car just kill it.

I still have a hard time identifying the performance difference with Sport mode engaged. Any ideas?

ChiPhi, what reflash version are you on and why do you keep going back for a reflash an know you need one?

I can't remember last time I had the ecu ref lashed, but my FX is running very well, so no ideas what you guys are talking about as far as the concerns?

My ECM has been updated/reflashed 3 times too:

1. Harsh downshifts from 3rd to 2nd gear. Dealer updated per TSB and problem solved

2. Got a service engine light code for P0118 (engine coolant temp sensor circuit out of range). Took it to the dealer they called Infiniti corporate and they updated the ECM with new software.

3. RPM dips down when coming to a stop and cars stalls in traffic. Updated another software in to the ECM.

So I've had about 3 updates done so far. Atleast they fixed the issues.

I cannot agree with you more! I have always driven all the cars I have owned and have not owned a "garage queen" to date! I take very good care of my cars and I could be borderline "anal retentive" as well........could be worse I guess.

Oddly enough, I definitely notice the suspension soaks up bumps better in sport mode over rough transitions in the road. This seems like an oxymoron with the overall still ride of the FX50 in general, but I have tested it quite a bit in familiar areas. Also, with sport mode on, the car stays flatter when cornering aggressively. This I have tested as well. The differences are not night and day, but I have always been sensitive to suspension on both two wheels and four.

I am not a "guru" when it comes to the re-flash on the FX50 by any means, but I can say that the first and second FX50's I drove had a noticeable issue with the transmission as far as shifting and smoothness. I knew nothing of the re-flash or anything like that at the time, but I knew something was amiss with the tranny. I started my research and started learning about the re-flashes.

You have a "hump day (Wednesday) build FX50" ;) Mine has been flawless as well, but I did make sure that any updated re-flashes were performed.

OK......that response did not work as planned......sorry!

"ChiPhi, what reflash version are you on and why do you keep going back for a reflash an know you need one?"

You know I am not sure what version but I can find out. My excellent Service Rep indicated that this version was released in the past 90 days or so. He acknowledges that there have been several iterations due to an issue.

The symptoms for me have been inconsistent reaction to the throttle. Some sputtering sometimes, hesitation other times, a 'hitch' in acceleration when you 'mash down' most of the time. When I take it in, they test drive it and confirm it is definitely an issue. Not that it is relevant but I didn't even know how to spell ECU with my 1st Gen. :). Now I am intimately familiar with how it affects my ride.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
However, my philosophy is that you cant polish a turd. If the vehicle was poorly taken care of astheticly, it was most likely neglected mechanicly. Ive now started my search for a new 35. Im now in negotiations with leasing options. One good note, they tell me that my 07 has appreciated in valve by $3k.

I have also noticed inconsistent reaction to throttle. It's amazing they are still working on this after so many years!!??

Love it!

Cleaning the throttle bodies won't help with the throttle reaction.

Here is the problem with the delay in the throttle. Your cruising along 30-45 mph and you need to change lanes/take over someone else, or just speed up. The annoying torque converter locks in at a low RPM with a really high gear (I've seen it at 6-7th gear at this cruising speed). All of a sudden you give it more gas or push the pedal almost half way and there is about a 3 second delay until the transmission computer realizes it needs to downshift. Then when it finally decides to go the car jerks back really hard and slams you in the seat because all the power is brought on at once.

Annoying as hell if you ask me. Infiniti really needs to get this transmission computer update out. Screw gas mileage! I'd prefer my car not to stay in a high gear all the time. The throttle delay is so annoying. Only way to fix it yourself is drive in DS mode or manually downshift with the shifters or paddles on the wheel.

And it's not only Infiniti that has this problem. Practically every car I've been in with a 7 or 8 speed transmission does the same exact thing. If you ever been in a Lexus IS-F it does the same thing. My cousin's boyfriend has the 8 speed transmission in that thing never knows what gear it wants to be in. Driving around 30 mph and it's in 8th gear and bogs down too much.

Cleaning the throttle bodies did help with my throttle reaction...not with the shifting but with the overall pedal feel, even while ravving now the throttle is so much smoother.

i did the reburn on the tranny to the latest update and it smoothed out my 7at pretty well. there is plenty of torque in the FX50 not to worry about going up 3-4 gears on the highway...

other method is to build a grounding kit for the tranny, it will speed up the shifting time

Kenny...sending you PM on details...

So I'm picking up my car today. Just got a call from the manager and said my ECU and trans and any TSBs are up-to-date and last time they did any updates was like 1 or 1.5 years ago and that was on the trans.

If any of you are getting updates, it's because you didn't already have it or last time they put it on they didn't put on the latest one.

When you hook up the machine, the machine reads your FX and knows all the details to determine if there is a newer ECU or trans or TSB update to update your car with. In my case, I have the latest ones and the computer didn't say anything was available in any of those categories. There were no updates for awhile then and if you think there was, the dealer is pulling a fast one, otherwise I would suggest posting your invoice to show us exactly what update you got and I can confirm with the dealer when that version did actually get released.

Compete segway - My old design firm designed business cards that used QR codes on the back (the new style UPCS, the squiggly squares?) anyway I had each of the team come up with a title or phrase then convert it to QR. People rarely scan it (I believe it will be used more soon) but if you scanned my card it would say "turd polisher".
