Front grille painting on a liquid copper.

thanks, status knight 5's 22x10.5 with a +38et 265/40/22 they say it wont fit but i proved em wrong. stay tuned im trimming the fenders today and installing some V1 20mill spacers ill post pics today or tomorrow.

:ninja: def post more pics. I will check the wheels later, that lips is sick, and compliments the car so well!

It's a spray on. Just apply between 3-6 even coats and let it cure. It dries relatively fast in a hot weather. It's like $6 at Home Depot or Lowes. I applied 2 layers of clear coat over it

My grill is a bit different..I wont have the nice thin ring of chrome all the way around like you do. Mine's fat on the top and bottom. No way I'm masking a curved line and expecting it to be nice.

If I was going to plasti dip yours, I would probably do the following ... mask the bottom and top bars, and just paint the inner 3. It would still look good and kind of flow with the chrome stripe on the bottom of your bumper.

here is a quick photoshop ...

I dont like it. Just go all black, maybe emblem chrome. The chrome strip is nice, but it doesnt work all bold like that on the later grill.

Did this mod over the weekend! I am pretty happy with how it came out! Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

I sanded the grille down first - then put on 7-8 coats of plasti-dip - and then clear coated it with a 3-4 coats.

How many cans did it take to do this? And which clear coat did you use after? The plasti dip clear coat? I'm doing the something tomorrow to my grill so I wanted to know how many cans to buy lol. Sorry for the 1000 questions!

I removed plastidip off my grille and repainted it with a gloss gun metal wheel paint. Plastidip faded quick and I wasn't feeling the matte finish with the high gloss of the body paint.

In both cases wether you decide to do the plasti dip or paint, one can is enough.

With plastidip, apply a few even thin layers, in case you ever decide to remove it.

With the paint, don't forget to use a primer first for better adhesion. I did about 6-7 light layers of the paint to get even coat, followed by 4 layers of clear.

When all dried out, I lightly wet sanded it down with 1500 to smooth it out, buffed it out to get the mirror finish.

And if your grille has road rash or any imperfections, sand it down too, or all the chips and imperfections will be visible.

Good luck and have fun with your project :)

Oh damn. That looks nice. Yeah I got the plasti dip for now. I figured I will start with that and then after I will move to something better. I want a gloss finish on it but I've never painted anything on the car. I will use the plasti dip as a start haha. But thanks for the info. I really like the way that came out. Good work.

Thanks:)

Good thing about plastidip is that you can peel it off if/when you change your mind.
Gotta start somewhere, right?
Just remember thin coats, a few layers and you're good.

Post pics when done :)

I just finished taping up the emblem and border. I'm about to plasti-dip now.a7y7y7uh.jpg

I just finished my first coat of plasti. It looks weird. Gotta wait 30 before I can keep going though apparently 3uqe4uma.jpg

Thats the first coat? I think u went way too heavy on it, first coats supposed to be light with 50 percent transparency bro either that or it looks like you maybe didnt prep the grille correctly bc it looks like its bubbling and not bonding.

Uhm, that looks very heavy for the first coat. The first 2 coats should not cover the grille entirely. You might be spraying too close too heavy?

The bubbles look worry some. You don't want to create fish eyes.

Yeah I didn't realize how cold it was today. I think the plasti-dip was still kinda frozen. I have to re-do it tomorrow in a warmer garage instead of outside. I will use it as a learning experience haha.
