Front Axel (CVT Joint)

damn .. I wish I live in SoCal, I've been wanting to relocate but I dont think it's ever gonna happen. You guys are so lucky....:frown:

Right on! You picking it up today?

No.. I will drop off the TC romorrow morning and pick it up by 6pm ....

I'll be there in the afternoon for some scheduled maintanance - after some hard runs at the track last week. I should really change out the K&N drop in also since we had some terrible fires here in Socal - but i havent had a chance to clean out the spare one I have.

Sorry to hear that Berto, sounds like you are getting a good deal and a raw one as well. I guess it really depends on where you are and what dealership you deal with. Right before my departure I had a busted CV boot, FX lowered on the H&R spring and the dealership still replaced the entire axle. See if you can get replacement from somewhere else before spending the loot. its part of the power train, maybe someone will honor that warranty. you would think if you aligned the FX after lowering that it brings the vehicle back in spec of its original stance with only a change in height. Can that dealership actually prove that lowering caused the break, hell I'm sure there are folks that have had repeat breaks of their CV joints with no height change in vehicle stance. I just think it sucks that not all dealerships work the same customer courtesy/quality. Where is the standard...infiniti?

I know what you mean. It's just a matter of location. I went to two different Stealerships and both came up with the same answer.

I went to LMS this morning to drop of some parts and Steve told me that the axle seems to be defective and that they should of honored the warranty.

I just figured since I am able to get off easy with this repair, it's just not worth me fighting about. But I imagine that there will be something on the horizon.. There always is..:cool:

I am happy that my FX will be fixed and I will be able to drive it home tomorrow...

I picked up my FX and it felt great to get behind the wheel. I made my usual left and right turns and wow not a single noise of clunking or stress on the CVT joint or axle.

About 1 hour into my drive back home I pulled into my driveway and "CLUNK"...

Enough Said...

Man Humberto, who the hell did you piss off to get this much run of bad luck?!?!? Did the axle break?

The Axle is Fine....

It just seems that it wants to pop out of place when I need to make a left hand turn. That's how it broke in the first place on Saturday.

NO bad luck Pierce.. I just bought the wrong FX...

I have that pop as well. I got it fixed using the TSB I found on the org, but after H&R and installed Stillen STB, came back. This seemed typically from others on the org.

I didn't get the chance to read the entire thread, but did you try the TSB fix? It's I believe changing out a nut/bolt. The Infiniti mechanic said it doesn't hurt the car (at least what my problem is - could be totally different from yours), but who knows.

Thanks for the input Ched. The only thing is that I don't have a TSB (Strut Bar Right?)

The set up that I have is all Stock except for the Eibach springs and running on 22's

Would it be possible to take your Eibach's off and put your stock springs on so that they will honor your warranty at a different location?

i know it would cost to change out the springs twice, but if the dealership does the warranty work for free you still end up saving some.

I tried that. They tell me that the FX has been writen up and doing this will not help...

Ok my problem is alot larger than originally thought.

On the AWD front diff, the left (driver's) side has 6 bolts, no nuts. The bolt goes after a washer and threads directly into a shaft piece that is within a circular housing. The bolts are in pairs, 2 at each 120 degree interval.

My boot is completely removed, all grease had evacuated the area, and not sure how well the clamps are holding up. Since the entire boot assembly was only $30, I ordered that whole replacement.

The washers were 5 cents, and each of those 6 bolts were $1.25 a piece. I ordered all 6 of those along with this shaft that enters the diff housing. This shaft was an absolute necessity at somewhere near $240 because in one of the 6 threaded holes, the previous WRONG BOLT had sheared and was stuck inside.

Could I have repaired this? Yes. But I feel the $240 to know that this possibly now faulty component will have been completely replaced with all proper OEM bolts.

I will be re-installing all of this probably as soon as the parts get here. $298 shipped for all the parts required to repair, plus I gotta clean up this entire area and repack with grease.

So FYI, if you ever go to a shop that seems too good to be true, question their work, and set something like this up beforehand to let them know that if ANYTHING required is missing, you will personally order all necessary OEM-ONLY parts. I wish he would have told me that they were missing these bolts and ended up using random bolts that fit around the shop that ended up costing me $300. Half the price I paid to have the motor installed.

Part #'s 38231Y shaft in pic1 (~$240), 39100A bolts (~$1.25 ea), 08915-1381A washers ($0.05 ea), and the entire inner CV boot assembly 39156KA in pic2 (~$30)

Thanks Cube... Wow where did you get the software to give you this detail...?

LMS will take a look at my problem tomorrow morning and tell me what could be wrong. Based on the write up on ORG, in regards to people complaining about the same noise my FX made before it popped (Pierce included), I do feel that this should just be something minor since the repair and replacement of the Axle has been made and there is no leackage of Axle grease and the boots on each side have no visual stress.

I just hope it does not get any worse for me. What really hurt me was the double pay for having them swap out the Stock TC.

Total cost for my first visit.. ($1,304.64. BTW Min(Lebron23) refunded me $300 bucks and applied it to my bill for selling me the wrong TC)

To clarify, my pop/click is gone and had not returned since I tightened the strut bar. And, after I replaced the stillen with the nrg bar this weekend I have not heard any pops or clicking from the front on the driver's side area. I don't think my popping noise is the same as most with issues with the front axle or cvt joint. Good luck to you guys and hope it gets resolved soon.
