Driver's Seats Question...

Hey folks...been awhile since I've last posted. Still loving the FX (aside from a couple of rock chips that somehow was able to hit part of the car that was NOT covered by 3M clear tape)...

Anyhow, lately, I've started to notice something strange. So, wondering if it's just my imagination or if others have this as well: Does the driver's seat seem to move a bit when the car comes to a stop and/or accelerates...?

No, I'm not saying the seat moves more forward or backwards...as it seems to be fixed in place. But, for some reason, I feel as if the seat shifts in it's spot...

You probably aren't imagining it... My '05 FX35 does the same thing and I've read/heard of others' seats doing the same thing as well. That really sucks to hear that yours is doing it so soon, take it in for warranty!

don't know what it is, or how to solve it, mine does it too, especially when i brake hard. at normal braking it doesn't seem to do that.

I've never had this problem, nor have I ever heard of it on the 2nd Gen's.

  • IF YOU CONFIRM: The driver's seat in an applied vehicle: Has a noise (clicking, creaking,or clunking) coming from the seat bottom area AND/OR Rocks back and forth. ACTION: For 2003 model year vehicles: Replace the Seat Lifter Motor Assembly and Lifter Link Assembly in the driver's seat. For 2004 & 2005 model year vehicles: Replace ONLY the Lifter Link Assembly in the driver's seat. Refer to the Service Procedure for details.
I mentioned this to my dealer, and
they took care of it under my extended warranty.
but it took me about a year,

I have never heard of that problem with the 2nd Gen until now.

I have no problem with my 09 FX35

I was driving down the road about a month ago and heard a "SRPOING!" come from under my arse. I'm 6'6 200 lbs. Since then, it does rock back and forth a bit, and sometimes quietly creaks when turning a corner. No biggie... I'll probably just continue to live with it. All power functions work normally. FWIW, I had the seat set very low to the floor and almost all the way back.

If someone finds a DIY fix share the wealth!

This is a common problem due to wearing of a plastic gear in the seat track on higher mileage FXs. There is better coverage of this issue over on the org. Only the plastic gear needs to be replaced, but Infiniti does not sell only the gear - they sell the whole lifter assembly. They will replace under warranty - mine did ONLY after I turned in bad customer feedback.

I believe there was an aftermarket replacement available (check the org threads) - or you can pull a used gear from a junkyard if you can find an FX out there. The offending part is a 1/2" round white plastic gear.

You can turn off the automatic seat adjustment to save some wear and tear if you are out of warranty. Since the gear is round and not all of the teeth may have worn evenly, try adjusting the seat just a little bit to see if you can find a better fit.

Well, another problem...I had the entire assembly replaced due to the issue I posted above.

Anyhow, last night, I started noticing a new problem: Everytime I stop or go from a stop, my seat sounds like there is a loose pebble in it. It is the weirdest sound...

Any ideas...? Thanks in advance!

Guess what? I have the exact same problems on my seat: 1) the cracking noise when the car turns (lateral movement) 2) slight movement of the seat on hard acceleration and braking.

I went to my stealership to report BOTH issues and this was their response:
1) the cracking noise is the leather touching plastic, they cannot do anything about it --> I know this isn't a leather noise! Bunch of liars! It is quite apparent that it is a plastic or hard surface CRACKING noise!
2) They didn't notice any slight movement of the seat during hard braking or accelerating. More BS!

I'm thinking of bringing it to another stealership to see if they are willing to resolve the issues and honor the repairs under the warranty.

Please let me know if any of you managed to get your driver side seat issues resolved!

THANKS!

Will do. My dealership over here in Alberta isn't too bad. But, I'll keep you guys posted...

So...update: The tech and I went for a drive and he was able to determine the sound to be coming from the back...like, the trunk.

Anyhow, apparently, the sound is coming from the damn trunk cover! So, he's applied some tape to the metal bars that the cover latches onto. So far so good...So, it was not a front seat problem!

Glad to know they fixed it!

Cabin accoustics are pretty difficult and tricky to deal with when it comes to rattles and what not. Sounds tend to travel back and forth in cars making you think it's one thing when it could be something totally different.

And when you say trunk cover, are you referring to the tonneau cover in the trunk? If so mine rattles too. I put some felt tape on the thing that holds those flaps and the noise went away.

its getting old

most likely you are not imagining this. this issue started in 2003 when the Murano and FX was introduced. I had my seat replaced under the TSB (technical service bullentin). this was on my 03 murano. it still moved when braking afterwards. you would think after 8yrs nissan would have improved on this issue. recently i have been getting a clicking sound from my seat when turning a corner or stopping. it's getting annoying. :mad.:
