There is a guy out of California, that sells the 2 gears with a motor for $150...I have the same problem and I am about to order a set to fix it. The guy told me it would take about 2 hours to fix. Let me see if I can find that number again.

I'd be interested to know this also.

I took the time a couple weekends ago to take out my driver's seat, flip it over, poke and prod to see what exactly was going on. FYI, There is definitely 1 motor that controls both the left and right side track so if one works then it's not the motor, maybe gear or something in the track. Problem is unless you want to disassemble the entire track system it is nearly impossible to access the tracks even with the seat out of the car.

Same problem...drivers seat broken

hello...new to forum!
just returning from dealer with identical issue...drivers seat on 2004 FX35 pulling to right. dealer just happened to have the motor assembly in stock and as a favor could complete the repair today for $1,000. getting back to the house and found this forum/thread from a google search.

thinking that we might have something caught in the track, as the seat is pulling to the right: suggesting the motor is working but there is an obstruction. will see if we can identify problem and resolve it ourselves.

even so, would appreciate if someone could post contact info for supplier who sells new/refurb motor assembly. also, looking for link to seat assembly, where can begin to understand how to remove seat. thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Having the same problem with a 2004 FX35 with approximately 62,000 miles. Quoted $1,000+ by dealer, $895 by independent repair shop. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Was able to fix this for approximately $70 by ordering the gear that moves the seat back and forth. Found a thread on another forum with the info. The website I bought the gear from is odometergears.com/infiniti.

Glad there's an easy fix for this. I also have my seats turned off during car start up just in case something like this happened. I'mma go off topic, but I wonder if the GT-R seats will fit. They look comfy too. Probably expensive. Hopefully it's light too.

Do you remember which one of the 3 it was that you ordered?

I ordered the first one with the neck and collar. It was for the driver's seat. I disconnected the auto feature when the original gear broke, and I have left it off per their suggestion.

Hope it works for you like it did for me.

An update:

You guys should really find any reason you can to take your car into the dealership and maybe they'll take care of it free of charge.

I had mine in this weekend for the bubbling dash recall and mentioned it to them and they took care of it for free.

Sounds to me that Infiniti has received word of this problem and may be fixing them under the radar.

That was quite possibly my first great dealership visit.

I have recently had the right side fail also. Was wondering if the squeaking that I've been hearing for a while now is related at all. Sounds more like seat cushion springs thou. Anyone else have a squeak in their seat on turning at highway speeds?

Man o man o man. I am so glad that I checked IS first. My problem started yesterday with the driver's chair not moving forward or backwards. I mean no response at all from the chair motor. With the help of you guys I checked out the website for the gears and how to take them off. Did a simple swap from the passenger side chair to the driver's side and "BOOM".... temporary fix til my parts arrive. I thought the motor was fried but as soon as I disassembled it from the gear it worked fine. Thanks a million!!!!! :top:

Now my next question is, has anyone come across anyone who sells the magnetic sleeve that goes on the plastic gear???

Wait.. I don't understand. So it's not the motor, it's the gears? Does that mean the gear were really soiled to the point that they wouldn't work anymore or they were just damaged from prolonged use?

Apparently it is a plastic gear that wears down to the point of being stripped. I have heard of a motor going out but was never able to confirm that's what my actual problem was. Jokajpp ^^^ swapped the stripped gear from one seat to the other for a temporary fix. Never heard of anybody selling the collar on the plastic gear.

Luckily with the purchase of my second FX, I have two extra seat assemblies with all the parts. Removing the seats is actually not bad at all - five bolts and two electrical connectors to take it completely out of the car.

Yes the motor was not the problem. Like Jumborsrule said, the gear had gotten so worn the motor could not catch the grooves. You actually do not have to remove the whole seat, just the motor that controls the lateral movement. Hey JumBo, would you be willing to sell me one of those magnetic sleeves??

I took pic. I'll try posting them.

I'm having the same problem now with my seat too. As someone posted earlier, I want to take the gear out of the passenger seat and fix my driver seat. For all you guys that have removed your seats. It is as easy as it sounds. I have not been able to find a DYI on taking the seats out or even replacing the gear.
