DIY Shark fin antenna

I got a short 3" dummy antenna on eBay. Even HD radio works really well with this

I was wondering since the M classes and a few other infinitis have the shark fin, is it possible to get one of those on our fxs? Or is it the same thing? any better reception maybe?

Anyone know the paint code they will need for an 2009 Diamond Graphite ?

Its on the aluminum plaque on the passenger side fender in the engine bay. There is no Diamond Graphite in 2009. You mean Platinum Graphite? If so the color code should be K51

Tried installing the shark fin on mine yesterday. I had everything ready and prepped. As I was about to place it on the roof, my shoe lost grip on my step ladder for some odd reason and I slipped. Then the fin stuck on to the roof and was crooked. Had to take it off and once you do that then it's over. No restarts lol. Anyways, I scraped off the 3M tape that was on there. Now I'm wondering if you guys have an idea of what I could use as an alternative adhesive so I could still salvage this $80 shark fin.
 
I am ordering a fin, painted for my car. I see mention of the gap the foam tape makes. Are you guys removing the tape from the new fin and going straight to the thin 3m ?

I just used the foam tape that came with it. No problems, been on for 2 years
 
Thinking about this for my next mod. Seems like everyone gets these color matched to their cars... I have grey metallic K51 paint, and was thinking about a gloss black shark fin... Think this would look good or should I just stick to the car's color?
 
I personally like it body color. Other color not matching body color makes it looks like a warts on the body to me. :smile:

I guess my next idea of wrapping it in carbon fiber would net the same look pretty much (not to mention probably a horrible idea to begin with).. body color it is!
