DIY Shark fin antenna

Edmarin none of the pics show up on the original post

I just got the tracking number for my shark today. I'd love to see a DIY if there's one available.

Such an easy mod that even I was able to do it all b myself with a little ladder !! Makes a nice difference too without the stubby antenna !

Here's mine again :)

I reuploaded the pics and DIY

Hey Guys,

I decided to remove the antenna and replace it with a shark fin the i bought from visual garage and wrote a DIY. This is my first DIY write up hopefully its helpful

1. Prep ur car for surgery.

2. layout supplies: Shark fin, hair dryer (dont hate the colorfulness :tongue (2):), terry towels, rubbing alcohol, screws.
///7091

3.Unscrew the old antenna (Carefully unscrew the antenna so that both the base and antenna won't break or crack on accident)
///7092

4. Once unscrew put the antenna to the side, damp one terry towel with rubbing alcohol and wipe down the surrounding are of the antenna base to clean it from dust n dirt (if the car has just been waxed then use 3m adhesive removal cleaner instead)

5. Look where the o ring is inside the fin
///7095

6. Place the fin on top of the base to make it align and using a masking tape mark where the sides are and the front (no pics for the tape part..got into it :tongue (2):)
///7096

7. Screw in the wire to the base with the screw that came with the fin
///7097

8. Cover the base again to make sure the wire is in place n not in the way.

9. This next step is a one time deal u screw up and ur done. If the roof is not at room temp or slightly warm use ur colorful hair dryer and warm up the surrounding area of the base to get it at the temp once its warm take the sticker off the fin and place the fin over and lined wit the tape

say bye bye to ugly antenna base

10. Once on press the front part of the fin down and keep holding for a minute after press down the sides and then the rear for a minute .

11. Look at ur old antenna and compare to the new one :tup:

12. Pat urself on the back for a job well done

I couldn't take the finishing pics as this was done at 1am last nite will take pics soon

do it youll love it and wont lose any reception :good:

I love my shark fin as well !! Its honestly one of my favorite mods .......... i was afraid of intsalling since i thought the 3m tape it came with would give me a difficult time thus it sat in my glove compartment for months then i finally installed it myself one Saturday morning :smile (2):

I really like this subtle mod! It's inexpensive and makes a big difference. I may have to look into this. Hopefully they have my color. Nice job to those of you who already did the mod.

Ya they have your color, because I bought one back in August

I don't think this works on 1st gens.. our antenna is on the front.

Not sure, but it wouldn't look right on ours I believe.
A shark fin in the front?

Well it would look better than what's on there. :/ what are my options for mine? I have a circular antenna on the back driver side. Do you think my front one is even working? It came like this when I bought it.
