DIY: License plate LED change

A easy mod. A bit more work involve than the 1st gen but not to bad overall.

1. Take off the panel covering the license plate plates. there is 2 plastic screws on both end that should just pop out with the help of a flathead screwdriver. Once you get the screw off use something flat insert it through the cracks and pry gently. I use those flexible metal ruler and wrap the end with duct tape.

2. Taking off the panel is the hardest part, once its off unscrew the screw holding the bulb housing, it should fall out. unplug the connector.

3. The bulb should twist out either clockwise or anti clockwise, it should give no resistant don't force it out.

4. insert your new LED, I used the PIAA wedge bulbs.

5. reverse the steps and than pop the panel back in and your done.

The after picture does not do it justice. The LED doesn't give out as much illumination as the OEM bulbs but its Super white with a hint of blue.

Hope this helps!

Super-easy foglight change...was wondering if you might share your secret?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

havn't check the board in so long. Anyways the fog light if you did not get the lane guidance system is the exact same as how to change the 1st gen.

the secret? has small hands. Find your gf or your nephew or whatever.

the LED for the license plate was purchase from a local shop and it is way too expensive. If i remember correct it was over 50$. my guess is 40$ for the PIAA brand. It can be had for cheaper elsewhere online

are you doing this on your G? or FX? either way hit me up with a PM as I have a list of all the interior lights i got. bought from superbrightleds/com and one other site for vanity mirros but i forget it right now. Let me knkow.

Its for the FX. what color are the LEDs you have?

How many lights do you have and will they swap out every interior light? Including the vanity mirror.

If so, we'll work something out

super white. nice clean light.

how is the led on the eyes? i need to use the interior lights alot for reading and various activites i've been told it ok but i'm not too convince having used super bright white led for reading. it creates lots of eye strain compare to the dimmer but easier on the eye yellow bulbs.

input?

Hey Shumby can you shoot me over your LED list? Thanks!

I took a look when I change the license plate bulbs I believe u have to dissemble the rear hatch to get t it. Not worth it IMO the white led is not bright enough when ur backing out at night not worth all the trouble to be cool for less than a minute a day
