DICE MediaBridge iPod/iPhone USB Integration Kit + Bluetooth

Hi all. Picked up my MediaBridge and cradle. I was curious. Since the MB only has one USB output, is it possible to have a non-powered USB hub to have more outputs (one for my iPhone, maybe one for my iPod, USB stick, etc)? Or will this conflict?

I've been told "No it will not recognize a USB hub" but haven't tested that fact. If you've got one at your disposal, give it a try and post your results.

By the way, everyone check to see if you're on the latest firmware 5331. They posted an update sometime in the last month that displays streaming app song info on the dash for iOS 5 users

I was trying to be smart. I made sure I was up to date prior to install. Also leaving it plugged in and having the USB exposed so all I will have to do is hook my laptop up to it for future updates!

Excellent write-up! I just installed the MediaBridge in the same location as you. The only difference is I added the mini USB cable and will be routing it to inside the center counsel so I do not have to lift up the center piece anytime I have to update the firmware.

I do have one issue. I am having trouble setting it up for the first time. I have an 05 with NAV and Bose. I have it set up for the SAT and the presets for the iPhone, but I cannot make changes to the Fields, Timer, etc. Also, I am not getting any information scrolling on the display. I looked into resetting the MediaBridge in order to start from scratch, but there is no hard reset and if I plug it in to the computer, it only shows that the firmware is current.

Thoughts?

When you first flip over to the MB input on the radio, you have 3 seconds to hit a preset number to set options. When you choose that particular option (I think #4 is fields display), use the track buttons on the radio to modify that setting. I find it works best on Scroll 18 Characters. I also flipped through the options on the radio's Display button until it showed me the most lines of info. So now I get SR, app name, song title, and artist all on the screen and the info scrolls if there's more text than what fits on the screen.

When you're done with the settings, press preset #1 to return.

Have you tried that already?

I got it, installed it and i love it but the only problem i'm having is that it won't neccessarily play from where it left off.. I mean it'll play the song i was playing but not at the location i left it off at.. This is on usb flash drive i sometimes play long dj sets, maybe an hr or 2 long and everytime i start the car it'll play straight from the beginning instead of where i left it off in the set.. is there any settings or anything i can do to fix it? I also can not get the unit to fast foward or rewind within a track without it skipping to the next song. how can i get it to foward or rewind? Any of u have these issues or problems?

Love the MB but I have a couple of gripes:
1) When listening to regular FM, have to switch to the MB in order to answer phone calls. Easy enough with the mode button on steering wheel, but I hate having to think about it
2) Cannot skip song on Pandora
3) Cannot FFWD/RWD my iPhone music (non-Pandora)

Everything else I love.

Will have pictures up soon

I have the same issue with it start playing from a USB stick, it always plays from beginning of the title you stop at when you start the car up again. There are times that it play from the very first title on the USB stick too, but this is mostly when the car seats for a few hours though.

yea thats annoying, imagine listening to a full hour or 2 dj set and having to start over, ALL the time.. it drives me nuts!!

that and i can't figure out to FF/RW on it either, sometimes it works, most of the time it just skips the song

2) Cannot skip song on Pandora

Check that you have the latest MB firmware and are on iOS 5. This functionality was only added recently

I've never used the USB stick but I can confirm that it starts where it left off on iPod and iPhone apps, including Pandora. That is of course if you leave the app open in the multitasking bar. It may be because the iPhone is basically a computer with ram and can store that sort of short term memory. The flash drive is just the hard disk part of the computer, no separate memory module to remember that sort of thing. It sounds like from what la_fx says, that the MB may have a small short term memory for this. But that doesn't appear to last long.

I can't find any info on fast forward. I just use my iPod for that. It sounds like other vehicles with the MB can do it and it's a matter of finding the button and the quirks of how it works. I'm going to try the method you guys suggested to see if I can get results.

SteadiFX is totally correct about playing through USB stick. It resume play capability is at random at best. When resume play works, it always start playing at the start of the piece. There no FF & RW feature available when playing USB stick.

FFW works on iPod when you press and hold next track, but it skips to the next track and starts fast forwarding on that track. And if you don't find the part that you want, trying to fast forward again will skip you to the next song first. No rewind that I can find.

Just ordered mine from Amazon, should be in next week sometime. (Shipping to Alaska takes for-freaking-ever!) Im sure ill be asking for some help once I get to tearing into it. This will be the first real project for me on my FX. Thanks Steadi for the awesome write-up and all the pictures.
Hopefully on down the road i can add on the navtv of some sort, looks like a pretty sweet setup if you have everything. Although by the time you buy everything it might be about the same price to just get one of the touchscreen overlays?? More things to think about i guess...

thanks for getting back to me.. i still can't seem to get it to work and its actually quite annoying.. i actually use my ipod find the son i wanna listen and plug it in.. so sad.... quality is really good and love it but shit sucks when it comes to functionality.. the only good thing is that it atleast functions compared to the Grom unit which i went thru hell to get to work and just returned it

so with this connector you can stream from your iphone to your in dash navigation system? this connecter connected to your dice media to your iphone that easy? I have a 04 fx35 with navigation AND MOST IMPORTANTLY TO ME...
The Serial Rx/Tx lines in the dock connector are freed up for Video Chip Authentication, so now I can stream audio and video out of my iPhone simultaneously!!!

Just like the newer Infiniti's that offer factory USB iPod control, we can buy one simple cable to connect our iDevices to our NavTV devices and the radio SIMULTANEOUSLY! Don't spend $50 on that apple tax though, I recommend this one:

2 weeks ago, I installed the AMBR-1503-NIS in my 05 FX45 with navigation and satellite button but no satellite radio installed. The sound is much better that anything else I've used and I like the bluetooth features. I also like the fact that the iPhone cable charges the phone. Using radio controls is challenging so I usually use the phone to control what i'm listening to. Steering wheel buttons only control the source so they're effectively useless. The test scrolling and audio announcements are nice little bonuses too. I bought this for the bluetooth and 1 cable connection that could also charge so for me this was a great purchase.

Just installed mine yesterday but cant seem to get the MB to recognize an "Aux" device. In fact, the whole thing is a little quirky. Sure, I have my core functionality that I wanted the most (charging and playing from iPod/iPhone) but no "Aux" and really, cant stream music from BT either. Do I have to disconnect the OEM BT in order to stream BT via MB?
Also when the woman voice announces modes, have the time I cant tell what it says... it cuts off the beginning and I usually hear "-ode".
One more... can we or can we not mirror display? Would be fantastic to mirror something like Waze or Google Maps. I have the non Navigation unit in my 07.

I'm not iPhone user, so no specific comments on iPhone usage on this device. In general, you can only operates it in one mode at a time (BT, Aux, USB). You can only switch between mode at the first 30 seconds on power up the radio. No need to disconnect OEM BT. Does your phone see the MB BT device? It needs to be paired up just like any BT devices. You will need a NavTV and similar to feed the video onto the stock screen. MB alone can't do video.

Thanks, I figured out the navTv need yesterday. I just needed to pair my phone with the MB (oops) and was streaming in no time. Guess I'm happy for now :)
