Some guys here have been PMing me about my custom grill. I did this mod myself, and I have some pictures of the process; so, I decided to post those here for inspiration and reference. Sorry if you've already suffered through this on the .org, otherwise enjoy...
First I cut out the "bars" that I wanted to eliminate.
The carnage...
Next I cut out the little "speed bumps" on the bottom and middle bar. I don't have a pic of this part, but I basically just used my Dremel to clean everything up.
Next I affixed flexible plastic pieces wrapped in foil to act as a mold on the top surface of the bars. I also had to bend and clamp a piece around the top of the logo because that had to be removed with the bars.
After the two layers of fiberglass set up and cured, I removed the molds and was left with a pretty smooth surface. 'Glass doesn't stick to tinfoil
After finishing the surface with a thin coat of body filler and primer it's ready to be painted.
The plastic mesh was affixed using wire ties attached to the back of the grill with polyester resin mixed with milled fiber.
Ta-da!
It mounted back up just the way the stock one came out.
