Considering Stillen High Flow Intake

I wish these intakes made a bit more growl. My old yeller Integra was crazy loud. My FX is way loud out the back, but up front, it's fairly tame & smooth as whipped butter . . . & no tapping sounds either :err:

It seems pretty loud to me but I guess thats because I need to get used to it. I also have stock exhaust which is where I could hear to most noise from before the intake...now there is much more up front. I would love to get a nismo exhaust, they sound awesome. Hopefully in the future.

I ordered and installed the same package you got about a week ago....mine too came with the metal bracket with ZERO instructions. What I figured was that it also came with 2 self tapping screws. I tried several different combos and ended up installing it on the rear of the airbox facing the drivers side....doing so lines up the other side of the bracket close to the body where the strut tower is...allowing you to use the self tapping screws to make it more secure.

remember you will have to remove the intake box to clean the filter.... so make this easy for yourself... all I need is a phillips screw driver!

I got this kit installed with no problem.. Could you put pictures , so I can be able to help you out.. The hissing at lower RPM is normal.. and as Jeff mentioned it will increase your milage as long as you are not trying to be speedy Gonzales.. Milage+rear tires went out the window as soon as I installed the intake love the sound of it!! So till I get over it I will press on the gas every chance I get!!!!

Congrats on your new purchase.!! Enjoy it!

doesnt really matter ... but it looks better IMO.
maybe you can leave it off until you get more fasteners.

good to know..thank you

Thanks for the info, I love the sound also. I will try to put pictures up as soon as possible; I have just been busy lately.

i just finished installing the stillen intake today

noise... at first i was cruising around conservatively and the only change i could hear was a hissing/swoosh sound. but when i finally stomped on the throttle, it was a LOT louder than i expected at WOT

some issues i ran into
- the screws that came with the MAF were not long enough for the stillen box so i had to get new ones... not sure if anyone else had this problem
- when putting back the air scoops i lost the rivets haha
- not sure if i did a good job with the fitment. Going to redo the install another time. The long air scoop does not look as 'neat' as it did stock

I'm looking to get the stillin intake + z tube as well. How much noise difference was there after the install? My other car is a mustang with K&N intake, so I do like cars with a good growl...

The sound is considerably louder when at WOT. It is much deaper and nicer sounding then the stock intake. I would definitely reccomend this.

Yea I broke my rivlets, I think it is kind of hard to remove them without braking them. I went to the dealer and the gave me some new ones for free:smile:. But even still they are only a couple bucks.

i love the sound at WOT.. i like the fact that if you are cruising no one will figures you have a intake in.. but when you step on the gas.. a freaking lion come out! also love the swoosh sound when you just take off from a stand point...

over all its a good intake..

Metal Bracket answer

Hi all - I put the intake on about two years ago and remember this metal bracket. Here's the answer - depending on the year FX you have and also depending on the particular Stillen heat shield - you can't reach all the stock air filter housing attachment bolt points. The bracket bridges the gap between the stock set-up and the Stillen set-up and leaves a little room for you to make it fit perfectly. You might have to cut down or even drill a new hole into the bracket to make it perfect. It's aluminum and easy to drill or cut with even a hand saw.

The bracket is pretty much customizable - you can bend it to make it reach any place on the FX that has an existing hole. I used the bracket just for extra stability because without it the vibrations would move around the plastic airflow directors. I also used a hose clamp to attach the radiator airflow director to the Stillen heat shield. I'll try to post a picture of both the bracket and the clamp for all to see what I'm talking about.

The short answer is that there's no standard place for that bracket to go, but you can make use if you customize it a little.

Better late than never!!!

The bracket is at the top & center of the picture. I used the original mounting point under the wire harness. I used a threaded clip on the heat shield for the screw.

Notice I also used a plastic rivet and metal clamp to secure some of the airflow directors (bottom center of photo). The Stillen heat shield is now rock solid - doesn't move at all.

Good stuff jumbo.. I use the same intake with the Z tube and as you said the front of the intake move everywhere.. I will use some bracket to secured it.

Stillen is the best intake out there imo it really makes it scream and is a good upgrade for the money. ALso it can help gas mileage while under tame cruising which is nice.

I seriously love the sound of it.. Love the woosh sound when you quickly step on the gas.. And love the thundering sound when TB opens up.. I recently changed the spark plugs on my fx and the response is way better I drove to NYC and I was having a blast everytime I passed by someone and looked at my FX due to the intake.. This weekend I felt even more in live with my FX.. Took it to this carwash( being taking my car here for a while) and I saw the the face of the dude when he got in it.. He couldn't resist to step on the gas. As soon as he did that everyone else looked and I had this smirk on my face.. Good time!! Lol
