Considering Stillen High Flow Intake

I have wanted to purchase an intake since I bought my FX35 and am considering buying a stillen high flow intake found on the stillen website. I know there have been threads about this before so sorry if I am making anyone repeat themselves. The price from the stillen website is 195.58. Is this the best place to buy this intake or can I find a better price somewhere else?

ALso, I dont know much about the different intakes available for the 35's, are there any particular intakes anyone would recommend over the stillen. My car currently has no other mods.

I live in Northern New Jersey, does anyone in the area know a good mechanic to install an intake when I buy mine?

Thanks.

Seems to be a fair price. I bought mine from g35parts.com (Same part number on 03-06 g35 and 03-08 FX35). I would also recommend picking up the z-tube as well, if you're going for sound. I have the Stillen intake and z-tube in my FX, and I love the sound. Here is what I'm talking about:

In terms of installation, if you can turn a wrench, it's not difficult to install at all. It took me about a half hour.

^^ Ok the stillen website sells the both of them in a package as well for about the same price. Does it come with directions on how to install because I have never done any engine work before. How much different is the sound?

Also, some people have told me that I need to be careful not to mess up a sensor, is this true?

It does come with directions and it's not a hard install. The sensor is the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor attached to your stock intake tube. You won't mess it up unless:

a) You start the car without plugging it back into the Stillen intake tube
b) You over oil the air filter

b) is not applicable for you right now as well since the filter will come pre oiled. Also, when it comes the time for re oiling the filter (about 7500-10000 miles later), you'll be well aware that you can search a little in :iS: to find all these information posted on the FAQs & stickies

It's pretty loud when under wide open throttle.
Where in north jersey are you? I'm in paramus.

Really, I'm right around the corner in Ridgewood. We should meet up some time so I can take a look at your FX. I am hoping to purchase the intake either this week or the next, it would be cool if I could see yours first.

So I just bought the Stillen Z tube and intake kit from the Stillen website. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get here, I cant wait to put it on.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

oops sorry, I didn't know you already ordered... I'm always late

Intake finally got here today. I installed it and it sounds/feels great. One question; a metal bracket or brace thing came in the box and I could not figure out what it is for or where it goes. Could someone who has more knowledge about this help me out. Thanks...Drew

I didnt use that bracket either, I think its a brace to bolt to the ariflow to the fender area ... Im just guessing, they never mentioned the bracket in the instructions

Aright thanks for the responses...I will try to post some pics this week. Also, when I am about half way down on the throttle it makes a slight hissing noise (not very loud). Is this normal? I assume it is the sound of the intake sucking in air but I dont know why I only hear it at half throttle.

With an open cone you are definitley going to hear more engine sounds, if your car is idling and running fine I would say it is normal.

Yea everything seems to be running fine so it must be normal. Thanks for the help. Now I have to decide what to do next haha.

yeah the intake with z-tube will give you this nice little "wooshing" sound, where you can hear the intake doing it's job. just wait untill it really breaks in..it sounds really good!

now that i think of it...I really need to clean my filter or buy a replacement...

Another question. Shouldnt the intake make my car get better gas mileage, I am getting about 2mpg less then I did before. I have been revving it up a lot but I did that without the intake also.

I wish these intakes made a bit more growl. My old yeller Integra was crazy loud. My FX is way loud out the back, but up front, it's fairly tame & smooth as whipped butter . . . & no tapping sounds either :err:
