Get the latest one. C'mon man! Look at this picture. That thing is bad *ss!
Wow Ed, I also wanted a QX56 in my garage, but wife is too attached rot the Sienna still. I hope when my son is a couple more years later, I will be in the market for one. I would love the third gen more over then the second. To me the second gen's look is not refine and curvy like the FX lime ups. The second gen looks too much like it's distance sibling that's with the Nissan tag.
Get this, twin turbo....
Yeah the 2nd gen is a better choice. Quieter ride, better interior materials,, better exterior, etc. It also rides a million times quieter. Also made in Japan.
Honestly from what ive heard the 1st gen reliability is terrible. Not just because its made in the usa but it was designed poorly. The rear air suspension is notorious for leaking and sagging. Its a very expensive repair. Also the TCM is known for rusting because of its location making it vunerable to water. Lots of other issues too. But just some of the many that could lead to expensive repairs.
i would get this if ur going to supercharge the qx. Ive been in one and the torque is insane
Guys you're all suggesting a 3rd gen. While I agree, those cost quite a bit more, might not be a wise budget decision for Ed. Don't bankrupt the guy....![]()
Whoop, got my gen's mixed up. Its the latest model gen III that I prefer. To P&B's comments, so many Titan engine mods available.....I wonder if you up the power correctly the power to weight ratio will shift and you'll see a fairly substantial bump in MPG (if you can control your foot). I had considered buying one of these and seeing what could be done to the engine.
You're on to a good move, Ed. I hope to do the same thing in about a year. None of the previous gen I've seen have keyless start and that would definitely be the top feature on my wish list.
I would guess that some Titan engine mods would transfer over easily enough.
Ed, my brother has the 06 QX56 in white and has not had any major issues. The brakes on the pre 06 has issues with failure hence the major recall and lawsuit over it. But the 06+ have been fine regarding the brakes. I almost bought the 06 too as my dealer was giving me a great deal at that time with 0.9% financing, but wife opted for the lexus gx460 as it was smaller and easier for her to drive. Anyways, good luck with the search.
Off The top of my head I think the base price is close to 70k for a new 3rd gen actually. Add options, fees, tax etc and its easily past the 80k mark....
