Im planning on installing a CAI but I'm not sure which to buy. Also i read that you could get hydrolocking, What are the chances of that happening? I also I've near the DC area if that helps

Alot of the guys here have the stillen cia I use a takeda pro dry by afe. It all really comes down to what you prefer. There's not much as far as gains go but it gives a little extra growl coming from under the hood.

No true CAI's for our car. All intakes draw air from basically the same spot right behind driver's headlight. Some of the filters mount lower, but it's still not true cold air since the filter is right in the engine compartment and there are no vents feeding it. And for that reason, I wouldn't worry about hydrolock either. With the undertray in place, it's very hard for water to get into the engine. Also, it's an SUV so not that low to the ground. Just get whatever intake looks and sounds best to you. Other than that, no difference in performance.

I was planning to get a intake cause i read that it increases milage and also a little performance and not to forget the growl.

You can buy my old intake for cheap. All intakes are the same in my opinion.... PM me if you want the details.

Get a Z tube with a drop in K&N filter and call it a day. (I know I will get slack for recommending a drop in K&N )

You get maybe another .1-.2 mpg with the intake. That's all I could measure. So don't get it for mileage, you'll never recoup cost. No performance difference, get a plenum spacer for that. So basically sound and looks are what to base your buying decision on.

performance wise i felt like the engine revved better, a little quicker thats all but a week later you get use to it and dont feel any difference anymore (psychological wise)

I always bought my intakes for the "vroooom" noise. I didn't notice an increase in power or MPG. lol Maybe I have dull senses.

Some add power, some lose power. OEM is actually a pretty good design if you throw on just a z-tube.

Not to hijack this thread but is the z tube with K&N filter better then the stock box with z tube. Anyone know where to get just the z tube?

It will be slightly better since the K&N should flow better than stock. I had a Z-Tube (polished UTR one) w/ stock filter. Then I swapped to HKS foam drop in. Sounded a little different. Then I swapped stock airbox for JWT, got louder but that's about it. You can buy the Z-tube from Stillen. Or you can just go to the G/Z forums and find one, they're selling them pretty often. I will say that some think the stock tube w/ chamber outperforms the Z-tube. It could be true since the Z tube adds no power.

Ebay has z-tubes thats where I found mine before I bought my CAI

The tube is just the tube, the CAI is the whole thing with the filter, and box.

Yeah, tube is just a component of the kit.
CAI is the whole kit.
