CAI, Cold Air Intake

Possibly some resonance comes off the tube but the majority of the sound comes out of the filter end.

Makes a little difference in sound. When I still had my OEM airbox and Z-tube, it got slightly louder with the same tone. Adding a foam HKS filter changed the note slightly, but no louder. The Z-tube removes the resonators so sound will change slightly. Mine may have changed more because the Z-tube I use is aluminum vs. OEM plastic.
Does the tube itself make a difference in sound?

If you have the UTR tube, be sure to keep an eye on the rubber gasket that holds the vacuum tube elbow. Mine completely came apart and it fell out.

Hey THONY, since you live close to me, if you want, you can meet up with me and check out my setup. This way you can hear it too, before making your decision. This is what a dedicated IS member does. :smile (2):

Oh Wow! StuLax you're almost reaching 20K posts! :skywalker:

As stated most OE intakes on vq's and Vk's are very effective on our rides, aftermarket CAI's are more or less for visual effect unless you you have multiple breather performance mods in your system.
That's where a free flowing CAI intake can pay off. As discussed many times on iS the only way to take advantage of those mods is with a talented tuner who has been trained to tune Nissans.

Not to resurrect a sorta finished thread but I'm in the process of researching a new intake and didn't want to start another thread. It seems that the general idea was a Z-Tube and filter from stillen? Is this the best option for a nice sound? I am putting a Invidia Gemini cat-back exhaust too.

The Stillen CAI setup with head shield using the factory ducting is the best intake for the FX35. It's not as flashy as some but it gets the cool air from the duct more effectively than an open short ram will (those absorb heat from engine) and the Stillen filter flows much better. Alternatively you can find the z-tube from a 350z, and use a K&N cone filter and make your own heat shield but the ducting may not work.

Go for the stillen

as for "sound" it doesn't change sound that much as it would on some other cars. You'll hear a bit more of the intake noise but nothing crazy.

Hey guys I've been searching the entire forum and I'm having a hard time trying to find out information i need.
I was wondering If a stillen 3 generation cold air intake would fit a 2 generation fx35? Now I know that stollen
doesn't make a cold air intake for the 2gen well a least that's what there site says. But someone mention to me.
That to just order the intake for 370z or 350z and it should fit. Now before I drop some cash buying the intake I
Wanted to make sure that it is possible for me to do. So any help would be greatly appreciated. I apologize for jumping
Onto this thread but I'm not sure where to start a new post still learning the ins and outs of this site.. Thks
