Billet grills installed

Broke the links to the other photos a long time ago. Here's the most recent photos of the grille.

Well I'm resurrecting this thread because my Red FX was totaled back in December and I have been slowly re-building a Silver FX with all the parts salvaged from the original. Unfortunately both the upper and lower billet grills you see in the photos above were destroyed in the wreck.

Today, I pulled the trigger on the exact same set - both upper and lower billet grills. This time the grills will be painted or powdercoated black. Along with the black trim and roof rails on this Silver FX, I'm completely convinced I'm going to love the grills in black.

Here's a link to the Stillen site and the brand of grill I ordered (for the second time).

Will definitely post install pix when the grills go on but I was thinking others could post up any photos of their FX with a billet - either upper, lower or both, just to get this old thread re-started with relevant posts.

IMO, Billets are for Chevys & Fords...with that said, I dont think you're going to find too many iS members with Billet grills. Its just not a popular style in the import world.

That would be a question of personal taste here's mine------

IMG_9409.jpg

And this past weekend I prepped and sprayed a black Epoxy paint. One week for cure before a clear coat goes on.

I plan to remove the OEM Fuji from my stock grill and mount it to the black grill.

I have not been able to find a matched upper and lower set on eBay. I paid $205 for both, shipped from Stillen.

This is my second FX with billets - I rolled both with and without the Fuji on my last build:

After going without for a week or so I added the emblem and thought that it really completed the look - gives that flat front a focal point. In my head I see the black grill with silver emblem really popping - I think it will look really good. However, it's no trouble to see how it looks without the emblem so I'll give it a shot for a week or so before adding the emblem.

Yesterday I shot my second coat of epoxy paint. Can said to let the first coat cure for a week so that's what I did. Guess that means I have to let the second coat cure another week before shooting it with clear!

The black grille looks so different than that silver one lol its crazy what a difference it makes! But I say check out the badgeless first. It just looks so clean lol with the emblem it looks cool too though

Got everything installed and she looks great. Definitely happy with the quality of the parts and the end result. I have photos both with and without the badge - it is currently not installed but I stuck it on there with tape for some photos to see a comparison.

Two screws to install the lower grill - much easier to install from the top with the upper grill removed.

IMG_9420.jpg

After fitting up the upper grill, I couldn't stand the Painted Silver body that was visible through the grill. Terrible. So I masked off the bumper and shot it with some paint. I also hit everything I could reach with Optimum Power clean before installing.

IMG_9421.jpg

Once bolted up, the Silver isn't visible anymore. The black paint makes the grill "float" much better. Totally happy with it now.

And with the badge:

I gotta say, I'm liking it much better with the badge... but I'll rock it badgeless for a while - gotta give it a chance.

Just got back from a drive - wanted to suck some air through them virgin billets. No badge for now - will drive it naked to see if it grows on me like Sukhi says. Easy enough to add it on any time. I still have the badge from the red FX above - saved it from the salvage yard.

These photos above are also the first photos after a Chemical Guys waterless wash, leaf blower dry, Griots garage pre-wax cleaner (spray on, wipe off by hand/MF) and then a layer of Collinite 845 applied by PC 7424 DA machine (Orange LC hydrotech pad), removed by hand/MF. I haven't treated any of the lower trim yet - need to give it a good scrubbing before working on it with some Mother's back to black. That shot of the lower grill shows I need some attention on that trim.

With the car on lowered on BCs 3", 20mm spacers all around, stock 20" wheels and the Stoptech calipers peaking out of the fronts, the new grills really set it apart. Anybody who doesnt know the FX really can't tell there is anything not stock about it except for the grills. Of course, I just had to have the lower grill to cover up the intercooler. The grills look more stock than an obvious IC.
