Hey Andrew, I drove past your shop today on my way to pick up someone. I should of stopped and said whats up lol. Can't wait to bring my FX back to you after winter. I got a few scratches here and there from twigs hitting my car from the tornado, no damage though thank god. Just some light scratches.

the customer just bought the car from a friend who had it for several years but wasnt using it.

on short notice, we were able to give him exactly what he was looking for & more. there was a hot rod car meet tonight that he wanted to attend as well as a show on sunday. i didnt want to give up the job so i booked him anyway & put him off for the end of the day. i dont go out on sat nights so it doesnt bother me to stay late to finish up a car. we were done with a little before 8pm. he had just enough time to cruise through town & get to his car meet on time.

we decided just a nice polish would be done to bring up the shine of the red paint. the whole car was repainted but im not sure how recent that was. not much paint bled onto my polishing pad. there are still light swirls on the paint but the job didn't call for any compounding. i wish it did though or i wouldve been able to make this red paint even brighter than it did after the polish.

the customer was really happy with the job & thats all that matters.

i took a few pics before pulling it to the back to wash & clay. the car had light dust, it wasn't too dirty. there was a lot of dried up old wax in all of the moldings & name plate on the trunk. i had to go at it with a tooth pick & follow that up with a q-tip. i used a couple of 1" paint brushes to dig out the dried up wax from the rest of the car.

the motor is in the back. the trunk is in the front, under the hood. theres these vents at the top of the trunk. i guess that's to cool down the engine bay. i didn't take any pics of the motor.
i dont like taking pics of dirty things unless i detail them afterwords.

when i looked under the hood all that was found was a motor & a spare tire wedged up in the far right corner of the engine bay. it was mounted almost on top of the motor.

i wonder why they didn't place it in the trunk. theres plenty of space under the hood for the tire & plenty of room around it for storage. the trunk is pretty big, i think its bigger than the engine bay.

convertible plastic window came out like shit, no need to lie, im an honest guy =)
there was over spray on the inside of the window & on the outside there were many scratches. i wasnt looking for perfection but i think i improved the clarity a little bit. nothing much i could do with this one, im upset about this but what can i do?

Pete was very happy when he came to pick up his car.
his expectations were exceeded & his face was glowing!

he happens to be an old customer of mine from my previous shop. he remembered me from when i detailed his red suburban a few years ago. im glad he remembered me & im glad to have him back in the new shop.
the old customers always find me =)

combo of lots of old wax & perhaps some fresh wax from what we just applied. some of the edges you can see the foam tape used to keep the badge on the car. the letters are a little beaten up but i made them look 1,000 times better! at least theres no more dried up wax in the cracks!

04 40th Aniv. Mustang GT Correction 116 px

the previous owner left the car sitting outside for the last 6 years. the paint was in horrible shape but my customer bought the car anyway. he was attracted to its low, low miles. all it needed was a really nice detail. with some patience & lots of love making with the rotary machine i was able to bring the Stang back from the dead & give it a new life.

i was wrestling with the paint as it was completely covered in heavy swirl marks & a few strange looking dull spots. i found some buffer trails on the hood as well from some ol hack detailer from the past. the nose, roof & entire drivers side had very hard water stains in the paint. they were a pain to remove but i was able to get them all out.

every tight area like between the rear bumper & quarter panel, moldings, badges had a heavy dirt buildup.
the swirls were removed about 98%, as close to perfection as i could get it!

i wish i had a pic of Craigs face when he came to pick the car up. he had a big smile from ear to ear, he was

really excited when he got to the shop.

anyway, lets get to the good stuff.

drivers mirror was stained, passenger mirror wasn't stained. looks like the car was in its worst shape on the drivers side. the passenger side was not as bad but still a bit of a challenge to say the least lol.

01 R34 SKYLINE GTT-R Halogen Correction 231px

its a GTT but the customer calls is a GTT-R because it has the RB26 motor.

i figured i would end the summer with a big writeup. i decided to take a lot of pics for this GTR, which would be the car i had the most fun working on recently. ive had a lot of nice cars in the shop but this was something that was on my list of cars to detail for a long time. now i can scratch it off the list & just
hope this brings a few other GTRs into the shop!

as everyone knows these cars are difficult to import from japan,
making them very rare to find on the road today in the US..

im about to polish the trunk. i wiped down the surface with a fresh microfiber towel.
i dunked it into a clean bucket of water, no soap, just water & nothing else.
i wrung it out so its just damp & removed the light dust before i polish.

i apply compounds & polishes on the car & then either wet the surface with 1 light mist of fresh water from the spray bottle or ill spray the foam pad.

i think its better to have a little too much compound or polish than not enough. the trick is to not let the products & the foam pad dry out as the machine is spinning on the car.

too little product & it will dry up faster on the car. too much product & youll create too much splatter on the car which ads time to the job. you need to figure out the exact amount of product to work with thats not too much but not too little, the perfect amount. every car i wheel out i only get a little splatter that's easy to clean up before i move on to the next panel.

i have it all down to a science trust me!

a little over a month ago the Evo X was back for another light polish.

2003 Infiniti G35

nick had spent a lot of money on the detail i did for him recently. i wetsanded the entire nose & corrected the rest of his car under the halogen lights via rotary machine compounding & polishing.

i wanted to keep him happy so i promised him the next wax was free on me. he sent me a PM & asked me if i can remove a few new light scratches when he comes back for the wax. i said no problem for you man ill hook it up.

nick came back & requested this new to me wax that i finally ordered & had ready to use in the shop.
the reviews ive read on a UK detailing site were pretty darn good. a few pics of water beading after application got me hooked! i had to get this wax & now its here!

the weather was crappy out but he came in anyways, it was his only day off of work.

we took our time on waxing the car. it was raining out & i was procrastinating on a big job that i was in the middle of working on. i needed to catch a break from the shop so i asked my boy humberto what he wanted for lunch. we started talking about this local taco hut place & the big fella got kind of hungry. he offered to buy us lunch so we took him up on the offer. i put his car back inside the shop, closed the gate & locked up the place. we were going out of the shop for lunch, this is a big thing for me. (i dont get many chances to leave this place lol) the bill was on nick so it kind of made the day great. a positive note on a rainy, dark, cloudy misserable day.

when we got back it was raining still so i figured it was a great time to take some water beading shots on nicks car. it was depressing to see the dark clouds above but what the hell right?

i took a few shots of water being poured on the hood. the rest are water beading shots taken outside, in the rain.

it was a win win for everyone. nick was happy to have a coat of FK 1000P on his car. me & humberto enjoyed the free lunch at taco hut.

thats my boy Kurt Flurt, a very good friend of mine. hes owned the car for a bunch of years. i dont think hell ever let the car go. its clean as hell except for a small fender dent that my PDR guy can remove fairly easily. the interior has minimal traces of wear & age for a 15 year old car. actually, the interior on this car looks better than some new cars after being owned & driven for 6 months.

the color is nice because its rare but i feel its a little too white & on the dull side for my eyes. does anyone agree this yellow shouldve been more towards the reddish side? its not bright enough for me! a little bit of red & the color wouldve been perfect!

Klasse High Gloss Acrylic Sealant Glaze

-this has been long talked about as being one of the longest lasting products on the market. its bad rep for being a pain in the arse to apply & remove combined with a ton of new companies & new products has made this product almost forgotten. the funny thing is i finally ordered a container just for the hell of it. i figured i would give it a try.

there is a trick with application & removal but i feel its so worth the extra work because the results are just amazing. the surface of the clear coat is left feeling soft to the touch. feels like your fingers are floating on a pillow. the shine & color it gives your car is absolutely beautifull. water beads like crazy.

this is going to be my new fav sealant. i like products that are hard to apply & remove. i like to feel how thick a product is when im spreading it. if its harder to remove then great. waxing a car shouldn't be an easy thing to do. you should have to fight to remove it just a little bit.

for a little extra protection i topped it off with

Collinite #845 Liquid Insulator Wax.

another great product with pretty good durability. both of these products alone will produce a great shine. when combined the shine is just a tad bit better. i like to try to bling out my cars with what i consider the best sealants & waxes.

FYI expensive products mean crap. just because a product cost a lot of money does not at all guarantee that they are the best.

Klasse Sealant =$24.99 33 oz.
Collinite #845 = $14.99 16 oz.

most companies that try to sell waxes for high dollar amounts are just great at marketing that product. if you have a good story of how the wax company was started & the origin of the can of wax & its ingredients then you can sell it for any amount of money. sure some of the expensive waxes might work really well but i feel its money wasted in the toilet.

the only reason why i started collecting different kinds of waxes is to give my customers a larger selection.
i will eventually have the more expensive waxes even though i dont think they are needed. i want to be able to tell a customer i have the wax in the shop when its requested.

i wonder what my wax collection will look like next summer.
hmmmmmm. hopefully ill fill up the 3 dedicated shelfs in the shop & have to put another one up. =)

Prima Wheel Armour for the can & tip after hand polishing with some #0000 fine grade steel wool.
the dip in my garage is leveled off with a 4ft concrete ramp. this car is so low to the ground i had to put a piece of spare wood under there just so the bottom of his fendes didn't scrape the ground lol. even when on flat ground this S2K is pretty slammed to the floor.
good thing i fit under the car to reach all the way around the can. the tip is not meant to have much shine. its a dif material than the can.
i polished off a bit of black tar dots & other baked on stains from the can.
the can & tip are fully polished & protected.

on sat 10/23/10 Rami came back for a nice little hand wash.
i was excited to see mr. sun popping out from the clouds. i was looking forward to taking some day time shots. when i finished the big detail, the sun was down. i figured i would include these new pics & hold them on the side for a little bump lol.
when you see her coming down the road now she really stands out! she looks great, sounds great & doesnt talk back...what more could you ask for in a lady?
i love how bright the read is! look at her shine.
she is hot to trot =P

Big "A" Detailing: O6 VIPER SRT-10 Mamba Edition Halogen Correction 92px

bought & enjoyed for the spring & summer time, the car was delivered to its new owner the day after i presented it to my customer. Igor is good for a detail every few months. he usually brings me civics, i never had a clue he had this though! he buys & sells used cars.

Igor promised the new owner that he would have me detail it before he gave it to him.
i was upset to find a burn mark on the edge of the trunk lid. did Igor take it to someone else?
or did he buy it like that & not fix it because he only planed to drive the Viper for a few months?

i found all sorts of pig tails with some dull areas & holograms as well.
these types of scratches are curly & circular. they come from using a dirty foam pad on the machine!
all it takes is one little piece of dirt or dried up product to produce these ugly little swirlies called pig tails.

sorry, i couldnt capture the worst areas of the car on camera.
my hand written diagram will have to work lol!

a bunch of different panels had areas where all 3 of these paint defects were found.
the trunk was hacked up the most!

really tight areas that my 4.0" foam pads couldnt reach were compounded & polished by hand.
fender vents, hood vents, around the tops of both mirrors, some areas of both bumpers as well.
i even compounded & polished the door jambs by hand!

lets start this off with the wheels:
used in order from left to right.
thats Prima Wheel Armour on the end.

thats juan in the background taping up a 1998 Toyota Supra Turbo.
look for the 52 pic writeup of that Supra to be posted in a few weeks.
i did a 2 step rotary machine polishing to restore the red paint from pink, back to red again.
an aggressive polishing step followed by a light polish was done.
i finished her off with a coat of Klasse HG Sealant topped with Collonite 476S

i dont normally do this but heres a few teaser shots of the supra:

takes a lot of balls & experience to squeeze the machine in such a tight area.
i have all of the edges taped off so no worries. i think i was born with a Dewalt DW489 in my hand. my parents mustve put one in my crib at an early age. using this machine feels so natural to me.

looks like some acid water stains remained. it wasnt perfect but a big improvement was deffinitly made.
at least i didnt burn any edges like the previous detailer!
some deep scratches still remain. at least its 100% swirl free!

i took a break from the hood. i saved the bad half with the burn on the edge for last.
compounding & polishing was done with masking tape over the burn.

the burnt edge upset me more than Igor, the owner of the car.

remember this diagram? the entire trunk was covered with this:

i was able to glass out everything else but the burn really annoyed me.
