BC Coilovers Info & Unboxing (03-08 FX35/FX45)

Just went out again and while my wife was moving the steering wheel real slow I could feel it coming from the coilover and with a stethoscope on the coilover it was very loud. I guess the sound just traveled through all the metal parts which is why I heard it in the tie rod. After adjusting the dampening settings it would get quieter but would not go away. I am going to email Josh at Import Image and see about getting a replacement.

that's prolly the pillow ball at the top strut mount... try spray a little penetrating oil at the top strut mount & see if it changes or temporarily eliminates the squeek... I'm guessing it doesn't use a rubber isolated bearing type design like stock, eliminate slop but add noise may be the trade-off there

I tried but it doesn't change.

Well i will see if this happens with me as well just ordered a set yesterday. Probably taking delivery by the weekend. I hope its just an isolated problem that can be fixed.

I would guess coming from top strut mount, Don't think it is bad coilver or elevation related. I've had my struts off a few times and one time had aslight noise from top, little oil in right spot stopped it.

If it is the coil-over, the noise is coming from only one side. You've got one that works quietly and one that squeaks. I'd definitely try to get the squeaky one replaced. There might not be anything wrong with the coil-over at all like Turbo said - it might have the bias towards squeaking, just like a bunch of OEM rear brakes do when backing up. But if you have one that doesn't squeak - you should be able to get two.

Working with the Manager of BC and am going to check the springs preload later today. Will keep everybody updated, hopefully it's something simple. Just for reference BC recommends a 5mm preload.

Taking Pete's advice I adjusted the preload to 5mm and still I have the squeak, I then adjusted to 10mm and and the squeak is still there.

The only thing that changed was my ride height on that side. I emailed him and am awaiting further instruction.

Pete from BC is going to send me a new top bearing, we'll see what happens when I replace that.

Will update as needed.

You sound pretty even tempered so far boss......hopefully its a one time occurrence. Myself I don't have the time to wrench these days, so it needs to be a bolt up and be done with it.

Yeah, I am pretty fine with messing with it, just want to figure this out and drop it back down, I love the low look. It is only happening on one coilover so must of just been a bad one.

Plus I am getting my new cordless impact wrench tomorrow, gives me a chance to test it out.
