AWD Tire Replacement - All 4?

So I ended up getting an unrepairable hole in the side of one of my tires. Of course with AWD I'm supposed to change out all 4 tires...or am I?? I've got 65k on the tires, but rotate them religiously and the tread isn't too bad (40%-ish). I could probably get through the winter no problem.

Can I get away with only buying 2 tires and not messing up the transmission? Am I taking a chance by doing so?
Should I be grateful that I got 65k out of the set and just step up and buy 4 new ones? If I do the same Bridgestone Dueler H/P 265/50R20 tires are $1400 out the door. Worth another 65k or buy something less expensive?

Thanks in advance!

1) No, you don't have to replace all 4.

2) No, it won't harm the transmission, transfer case or AWD system.

3) The tire height difference is not material to throw off the AWD system or harm it.

4) Your car typically runs 100% RWD anyways unless it detect slippage.

5) If you have 40% thread left, I'd just buy one tire.

6) 65k is amazing on OEM tires. I would highly recommend your next set be an aftermarket, the Hankook Ventus RH06 is great:

I dont think tires will kill the tranny.... i think youll be ok with exchanging 2
but if you like... then get all 4 changed....

I would get two new tires and install the pair on the front or rear as a set.
65,000 miles is excellent on a set. If you were happy with the ride, etc with the originals I would replace them with the same make for sure

I assume you have the stock 20" deluxe touring tires? I have them too and will be replacing all 4 tires around 40K. I notice the road noise from the tires are now starting to noticeably increase. I bought the same tires that came on there which are the Bridgestone Dueler H/P 92a tires. Crazy expensive at $271 a tire:

Total cost will be $1,084 + the cost of mounting and balancing + the cost of a 4 wheel alignment. These tires are pretty good though. Their quiet and smooth and have good traction when their not nearing the end of their life.
