Audio/Video iPod/iPhone Integration into your FX

I have an 06 with a 4s iPhone... It works well but i have had people tell me its hard to hear sometimes. So I am going to buy an external mic and just splice it into the current one and mount it where gauge cluster is by the steering wheel where my voice travels when i speak... Hopefully this will help! Any thoughts? BTW FREAKIN awesome writeup and setup, I will be doing this as well :)

I would try a Bluetooth earpiece with your 4s first and see if you get similar poor call quality for the other person.

I think it's a problem with inferior Bluetooth hardware in iPhones, not your microphone. At least this gives you a less permanent way to test it. I'd hate to cut into my wiring and find that there is no benefit.

I'll be doing this install next weekend. Going a custom Kuda Mount with ProClip to hold my Galaxy Nexus in place. Does the mediabridge render the factory handsfree useless?

Unfortunately yes. Bluetooth can only pair with one device at a time, so while using the A2DP streaming for music on the MediaBridge, you can't use the handsfree on the car. But the MediaBridge's handsfree works seamlessly, it even displays (and can read aloud) the phone number on the screen. It will not display contact names that you have saved though, just numbers. Unfortunately that means the buttons on your steering wheel are useless.

Good luck with the install and let us know if you have questions!

Are you still able to pair the phone with the car's handsfree? Not worried about using BlueTooth with the mediabridge, I'll be using it to charge and play through AUX. Thanks!

Here's what I got so far for my Kuda Mount. I'll be running the Aux and USB through the center console similar to how you did and use retractable USB and Aux cables to go from the Kuda to the phone.

The MediaBridge does not interfere with the factory Bluetooth in any way. If you never pair the phone with the MediaBridge, it will still automatically connect to the car on startup. I haven't tested it but I imagine if you paired with both, it wouldn't automatically connect to either. You'd probably have to connect manually in the Bluetooth settings.

Good job on the mount. Let us know how it comes out!

Yeah, it works similar to Wifi. Only 1 connection at a time and my phone can be set to connect to bluetooth devices based on priority list. The good news, I installed the Kuda with all cables and it looks damn good. The bad news, the ebay seller I bought the mediabridge from did not accurately describe it. Its the 20 pin connector, didn't know this until I attempted the install today :( I did get it dirt cheap so its not a big deal. Know where I can get the 10pin harness from? If I can't get my hands on one, I'll resell the MediaBridge and buy the proper one. Thanks for your help Steadi, damn good writeup.

just bought the mediabridge. going to attempt to install it later this week. any tips on what I should avoid in order to not break anything? How do I get the cable from the box itself and out to the iphone? not sure If I want to do the Kuda or not.

I`m not sure why using the navigation is so limited while car is moving, is that normal in cars? would love to find a way around that too...

A interesting mod to this would be to add a front facing camera instead of the rear view camera for those of us that already have the rear view cam for additional parking assistance;
You would just have to provide a 12v line and mount a camera to the front gril! Right?

In short yes, just need a switch for the AV/in to go from rear/front camera.

Look for a used Cadillac night vision front camera, and then buy the Heads-up Display for the windshield. That would be sweet... Handy_Andy, next project?

Hahaha, don't really see any real use for the front facing camera. Heads-up display... I pass.

Its a good mod for us city people having to contantly park in tight spots all the time

Well i wouldnt need the front facing camera function when i'm reversing just after i'm done reversing and pulling up or out when i'm leaving.
