Any Bike Riders Out There?

Yeah that's my favorite part. I was riding the other day and had a perfect sprint where I was hammering and shifting perfect to where it felt like I just kept accelerating continuously.

Btw, what cheap carbon are you talking about? Chinese knockoff? Any carbon can and will fail, and once there's any damage it can be fail catastrophically. They even list this on with warning stickers. I even know of an Ibis that had a carbon failure, apparently it was the first one but the guy might have been embellishing.

I used to be a cheap bike mechanic while I was in school. I saw a lot of heavily used bikes over the years and just collected a lot of weird stories, experiences and some useful brand knowledge. I have heard (and lived) many horror stories from buddies riding 'entry' brands. The bad experiences I had were with Kona and Mec branded frames. As you said, any carbon will buckle once damaged, but those brands I have found are very, very easy to compromise. I had a buddy bump over his Mec frame and it chipped lightly. A few rides later the chip cracked through and split the frame. My frame, also carbon, has taken a fair amount of abuse, and even has a large chunk of the clear missing. Yet it still handles everything and anything I throw at it, no creaking or anything, even at 50+ km/hr.

I am with you absolutely! There is just something about the feeling of raw human power present on a bike that cannot be compared to anything. I love that feeling of constantly increasing speed, and the adrenaline that comes from knowing how easy it is to mess it all up in an instant.

What's a good racing bike on the cheaper end? My dad has been contemplating getting one. He has a road bike but he goes on decently long rides on the weekend and was going to look into getting a racing bike. He does like 60-100 mile trips usually on the weekend but in buying things for himself he can tend to be a little on the cheap side... Any recommendations?

i use stans to help seal up small punctures, even though i have ust rims and tires.. fixing a flat is always a pain whether tubless or not.. iv'e had my share of repairing flats at the trails running tubes.. at least now i can run lower psi and get more grip riding the trails..

People always say go tubeless it's so much better, etc. I've seen people burp out a bunch when I've ridden with them, have to end up putting in a tube, even last night a guy burped and lost his bead and we had to turn around because he just walked out. I've still never gone flat and had to change a tube in the middle of a trail *crosses fingers* I run fairly low PSI also. Yesterday climbing up a paved road I swear it felt like gravity was going to take over and just roll me back down, and this wasn't even steep. My rear tire just felt like a slug, and I could see it was lower in air.

I rode in Waco yesterday and Austin a couple days ago so I got my fill of limestone riding for awhile. I picked a place in Austin that was listed as technical and advanced thinking it would be great and it was really close. Only problem is it was a dirt bike trail originally, so the downhills and uphills were exactly the same. This meant a lot of fun downhill and a lot of pushing my bike uphill. The sign at the entrance said equestrians and pedestrians prohibited though, which was awesome. It was a lot of fun, but just too much work on the climbs.

My front suspension got a good workout haha. You basically just go up and down stuff like this. Although sometimes it's spaced out more.

Cannondale CAAD10 is a great entry race bike.

Tubeless for mountain biking is by far the best upgrade I've done. But it does have to be done right. I've never burped in the seasons of riding and racing.

i wonder if those that burped had conversions instead of true ust rims and ust tires.. from what i heard, if you are running true ust, you do not need stans..
 
I run stans rims and tubeless ready tires at mid 20s pressures. Never had an issue.
 
Hey guys, im looking for a light road bike for commute and a little rough terrain surfaces. Any recommendations?
Budget under $300, will buy used also.

Road bike info based on my height: frame measurment 55cm or 22"; mountain bike frame 46cm and 18"
