I want to get a used road bike, but don't know anything about them and don't want to spend over $500. Anyone have any suggestions?

After reading this thread, the phrase " good used road bike for under $500" is a unicorn. Entry Level is about 1k so perhaps if you get one that's got some years, 5+, on it..?
 
Agreed, $800-$1000 is about the lowest I'd go for something "decent". 105 or Rival components would be nice, but the new Tiagra is decent as well.
 
Best bet might be Craigslist. Find someone who's selling an entry level roadbike that a few years old. But make sure you have an idea of what size frame you need before you buy.

Finally got my Yakima Whispbar load bars installed. The fact that the OEM load bars were fixed and curved didn't do me any favors. These look great, are flat and flush.

Gone from the LOOK 856 UD to the ARGON 18 Krypton. The Argon frame is slightly heavier but it's a better value from what I can tell. What do you think, the gloss white or matte black? My wheels are Fulcrum 1's, black spokes with black/silver lips.......
