Any Bike Riders Out There?

Not sure how I missed this thread. I've got a 2010 Gary Fisher HiFi Pro 29 and a 2010 Specialized Roubaix Comp Rival. Debating on grabbing a steel SS 29er this spring.

Another vid, same spot. Actually went down early on in the video. I'm guessing I locked up the rear brake and the rear wheel just slid out on me. I was fighting for traction alot of the ride, which sucked. Also did the same thing again but caught myself last second. I've got a little scrape on my forearm and a "raspberry" on my hip. I guess the dirt just wasn't as good as it was a couple weeks ago because I don't think I was pushing it any more.

Picked this up today. Got a nice discount since it's a 2011 model. Taking it for its first ride tomorrow. So crazy to ride, you can go over curbs like they don't exist!

Sweeeeet! Those are fun as hell to ride. Just went to a bike expo in new jersey. Test rided one and didn't wana get off lol

Yeah that was my problem haha. That one in the background is all built up, Saint everywhere, bigger stanchion Fox 40 I think. Deemax wheels with 2.7 Nevegals. I rode that one first, big mistake. :eek.:
 
So crazy to ride. I'm doing a real ride tomorrow but spent about an hour today just tooling around. Only issue I have is over small little bumps it gets unsteady. Jumps really well and I can pump it down the back side of little jumps. Only thing I worry about is turning, especially since the dual crowns minimize how far you can turn the bars. Can't wait to see how well it rides on these tires, especially since there was some trailwork done a couple days ago.

I got new tires for my other bike also, Maxxis Minions take-offs from a Session 88, but they are dual ply, so technically that has better tires. :tongue (2):

I should have a vid tomorrow. Will be fun to see how much faster I am.
 
I like those a lot. It's cool how simple they are, and some of them look pretty awesome.


Also, pedaling a DH bike uphill is the worst thing I have ever done.

I'd love to get a road bike one day. I want to see what it's like to not pedal a 45 pound bike with actually good gearing haha.

Now the problem is this: Bought this cheaper bike, painted it and removed stickers....one of the pedals broke. Walmart wont accept it as a return because of my "modifications" and the company itself wanted me to send them my broken pedals then wait for replacements to come in. So, I hopped on ebay and bought a $20 pair of aluminum pedals which won't crack after two days like the cheap plastic ones.

But the moral of the story remains: Buy the better one in the beginning, you'll run into less problems. Now I am looking at legit bikes to get, like a HARO BMX bike or something like that, in the $400-500 range. http://www.harobikes.com/bmx/bikes/

Does anybody know bikes? Assistance would be great. Im just looking for a bike to ride around, get some cardio going, use to get to class faster than walking, etc. now that it's nice out I would rather take a bike to my friends' houses off campus than driving....

I'm a good reference for bikes. Haro is a good choice, but don't go BMX. Get a MTB. They make relatively inexpensive but quality bikes. Look into a 29er if you are over 5'6". Singlespeed bikes make fantastic, light, low maintenace commuters.

i was in the same situation when i was in college and lived 5 blocks away. my first used bike ($25) got stolen within weeks. i decided to stick to used bikes and end up with a diamondback mtb ($75) and it lasted over 2 years until i graduated. good quality used bike is my suggestion.

True, if you are worried about theft or have to store it outside, don't buy anything expensive.

Yeah I would go with a 29er. I would go with Specialized, Cannondale, Trek something along that route as they are built better and not just thrown together. Bikes are my thing.

Yeah, I don't think you'd get a large MTB to stand up in the FX rear end. If you plan to trail ride, I never liked that option anyway as I don't want mud and crap in my interior. I went with roof trays on the factory cross bars.
 
That would not fit in a first gen fx for sure. And like David said having a dirty, muddy bike in my car is not the best thing. Better to invest in a hitch carrier or roof
