Any Bike Riders Out There?

Did u mtb? If so we got some awesome trails here in pnw. Even if you're a roadie the seattle mayor is gonna turn that city into a bike only place soon anyway lol

Had another great ride today, same spot as the last two times. I'm definitely getting better and more comfortable out there. I even hit a jump this time, as opposed to just the drop offs.

I came really really close to potentially bad crash though. So basically this trail is mostly downhill, lots of jumps. Every jump has a way around so you don't have to take them, which is what I normally do. I ended up going right thinking that was the best way, then I realized I was headed for a jump. Tried to turn back left to avoid it, but ended up locking up the rear I assume and swung the back tire around. I finally stopped with the bike perpendicular to the trail, put my left leg down (uphill) to keep myself up, and my front tire was pointed down off the trail, which is basically a straight drop down.

Not my video, but it's from a couple weeks ago, so pretty accurate. Stop at about 3:40, he went right, I tried to cut back left. You can kinda see the dropoff.

So this might be a little funny. A customer came in with a Jamis flatbar road bike frame that was cracked. The guy is a messenger. He asked us to strip the frame, give him the parts and throw away the frame. So we did so. Charged him a small labor fee and stripped the bike. Now frames from manufactures have lifetime warranties. I tried to explain to the guy but he didn't wana hear it. So i said ok. When he left, i called jamis and explained how the frame is broken and bla bla. Jamis said send us a pic of the frame and the serial number. I did so and he says i will send you guys a new frame. Now the frame that broke was aluminum with an aluminum fork. The frame that arrived was an aluminum frame with a carbon fork. They send a frame and fork that was 4 times better then what this guy had. So i pretty much got like a 600 dollar frame for free. I ordered some parts. Allot of carbon and titanium and aluminum parts. Carbon bars, xero xr-1 wheels, Carbon seat post, ultegra rear and front derailleurs, 105 chain, FSA freedom cranks, internal sealed headset, carbon headset spacers, tiagra flatbar shifters, Avid SL aluminum/titanium brakes and levers, and titanium bolts all over, and more parts. Here is my almost finished product. weighs 18.5 lbs so far. Funny how this bike matches my FX perfect lol. Pearl white with black and red trim. :top:

Sorry I never took to road biking. Too dangerous...

Sweet deal on the warranty frame.
It's not like you didn't try to tell him... maybe he was a bit too arrogant? perhaps?
Karma. Good stuff

Nice bike! Where all do you ride in Colorado? I grew up riding at Vail almost every summer. Hope to go back this summer now that my skills are hopefully much better.

Im looking for a gift for my dad for christmas. Long story short, he enjoys riding when he can. He has a hybrid bike i would guess, leaves from the house and rides to the lakefront and more scenic kind of tours. I was wondering if there is something that people may recommend as far as a cool extra things for a bike enthusiast. Perhaps along the lines of a gps type thing where he can retrace his route? I dont know what is out there as far as gadgets but any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance guys

Does he have any type of Garmin device that shows his averages like speed, temp, calories etc? Or does he ride with nothing at all?

Weird, i was looking at the garmin edge 200 and 500...Im in my last semester in college, lets be real i cant afford the 800 for a christmas gift! The 200 is in my budget but, from my 15 minutes of research it looked like the 500 had more to offer as far as extra functions. I think I'm going get him a gift card to like Dick's sporting goods or some place that sells them and let him decide how he wants to use his gift card.

I'm sure he would like the 800 but hes not one to exactly splurge on himself, but after almost every ride he goes on he pulls up google maps and looks where he went so that alone would think the 500 or 800 is what he would really want. If anyone has like basic comparisons between the two feel free to shout them out. Thanks again guys

See if whatever you get can connect to Strava.

www.strava.com

I have the app on my phone, and it keeps track of all my rides, as well as compares my times to everyone else who uses it and has ridden the same routes.

Also, www.chainlove.com has awesome deals every 30-45 minutes. Might see something good on there for a lot cheaper.
