If this is a bike joke, it's definitely over my head haha. I don't have a kickstand or pegs or anything. I lean it against the closet doors in my room all other times also.
 
Let me try to start this thread back up. I ride a cannondale Quick Hybrid. It is a pretty cool bike. I used to freestyle on a hutch Trickstar.
 
Shot from last weekend. Did my first real downhill style stuff and almost crapped my pants a few times. My pedals are way too small so I slipped off a lot and ended up going down some sketchy sections with just my butt on the seat.
Ordered new pedals, an air shock pump, new wheels because one is messed up, and it's currently at the bike shop getting everything else fixed up.
Hopefully I'll be back riding again in a couple weeks.

Prices seem kinda high to me. I use JensonUSA because they have good prices and specials. Most everything I've bought from there is discounted. Plus they are in SoCal, so shipping is super quick.

Been riding at some local parks while the gf walks them... works out pretty good. I just need to get some cross-rails and a bike rack bc I hate putting it in back of the fx.

So I've been thinking of taking up mountain biking/downhill for a while. Borrowed a buddies bike and hit the trails last weekend and loved it. So long story short I found a bike. It's a 2000 Raleigh M8000. Minimal use nothing broken, great condition, just needs a little tune up with the gears. He'll let it go for $275. What do you pros think. Is this a good first bike? I'll be mainly doing downhill with ocassional leisure rides through the local woods.
 
cant go wrong at $275 if the bike is described accurately. Do it and hit the trails with a GoPRO cam!
 
Just make sure it's in pretty good shape. I've already spent a couple hundred on replacement parts and upgrading stuff alone. Then again, that's still only about $1000 total, for a much more expensive bike, when new.

You're in a great location for riding. PNW has some awesome spots.

I think I'm going again tomorrow to the same place from 2 weeks ago now that my bike is all fixed up. I got new pedals too, so I won't slip off at every bump.
 
So what would one look for? I'm going to have my buddy come with me but in case he overlooks something.
 
There are just so many little things you don't even noticed until you take it to a bike shop to get a tune up. For example, my rear derailleur hanger had a stripped bolt, so that needed replacing. It's only a ~$25 part, but little things start to add up. Also my rear wheel was basically done, and I bought new tires just because the current ones looked old and worn out.

By far the most unexpected money I have spent is on gear though. I have a normal helmet, full face helmet, gloves, leg pads, and two pumps(one for tires and one for my rear shock). It's easy to get carried away with stuff, or just leave it as is. My plan with this bike is to slowly upgrade over the next year and then hopefully go to Vail this summer to ride depending on where I end up internship wise. Probably will need a new rear shock soon, so that's another $200-$300.
 
Well hopefully I won't get carried away on this like I did on my nitro RC lol. I'm going to look at it tomorrow and report back
 
Good ride today, but man was it tiring. I took a shortcut to the trail I like to ride down, but it's up a fairly steep trail for about 1.5 miles. Here's a pic on the way up.

Got that raleigh. Seems like a solid bike. Dropped off at cousins place to get a tuneup (he works in a bike shops) befor ei hit that single track this weekend. Whoohoo
 
Looks like I'm one of the few road bikers here. Was at a Trek Demo Day yesterday and was finally able to try a triathlon bike. Speed Concept 9.8. Their second best tri bike in the line-up and it was insanely light and fast. Also tried another road bike with electronic shifting, such a weird sensation doing it, like driving a super car with the shift button on the steering wheel.
