another wiper delete method!

hey guys and gals. i just wanted to share with you another way to delete your wiper with a small plug. its the similar way as the thread posted jbakers thread. He came up with a great idea to plug the hole, but i wanted something smaller more low profile. so here it is.

stuff you will need to buy: home depot or lowes
1 can of plasti-dip
1 1/8" hole plug "found in the hardware section"
and a good clear coat spray paint
and a oil, degreaser remover for paint prep
scotch bright pad for sanding the plug
clear silicone

1- sand the plug down and spray about 3 good coats of plasti-dip and two coats of clear coat. this will hold very good. it should look like this. DO THIS BEFORE REMOVING THE REAR HATCH PLASTIC AND WIPER!

2-remove the rear plastic from the hatch the same as stated. remove the wiper assembly. once everything is out and you have your hole that looks like this

3- once thats done make sure you clean around your window hole good then insert it into the hole. NOTE! the plug will feel loose. but thats okay. pry the sharp edges from the back of the plug back on all of them and squirt some silicone between the spikes and make sure you have a very good bead. you can put some between the glass and plug if you like, but this way its alot cleaner and still keeps water out. it should look like this when your done and the sharp prongs flared out.

This is the differance between the sink cove,r went over in the other threads and the hole plug. both work great and the sink hole cover is alot more easier to install. but its self prefrence on looks.

^^^I do like that metal tabbed cap much better. You hardly notice it, once installed.

Looked nice and clean.. However, I NEED my rear wiper way too much to justify this.. Now if I lived in Cali..

 I hear you on that. I had my wiper arm off and was about to remove the inner panel when the wife noticed. She put the stop on it because she said she uses it all the time (I never use it) So much for that mod

Removed my wiper, in Seattle we get a little precipitation.....you don't notice the missing wiper after a couple weeks. I like the smaller, lower profile cap. May go back and re-do mine at some point.

Nice, mod! The lower profile cap does look a lot better. I think I am the 1% that actually likes the look of the rear wiper on our cars. I always have to have my wiper lined up to a perfect horizontal line. :alien:

I like the wiper better on too. However that cap does look nice.

I like it because ours attached to the glass and its centered so it looks pretty good. Now if it were setup like this, I would delete it too, lol.

Waaay back when I first did this mod I actually bought both types of caps (FXLR8's original post) and I still have the metal one on a shelf in my garage. I agree - it does look better with the smaller cap.

However the fact that it requires a silicone sealant is the reason I didn't go this way. Seeing this set-up actually inspires me to take another plastic plug like the one I have and turn it down to a smaller diameter. Good thing I originally bought two of them, along with the metal cap.:nerd (2):

^^^+1 it would be very easy to put the plastic plug in a lathe and make it a bit thinner and chamfer the outside edge.

^ It is extremely unnerving at first, can't sleep at night, loose stool, hair loss. I went to a therapy group and talked it out. Therapy was kind of scary, I didn't want to be the first to bring it up, you know "hi, I'm Lance and I deleted my wiper" but the guys (much like on iS) were very supportive. Some of them had also done mods that took some getting used to as well. I feel like I have come to grips with it now and I am a better/stronger person for it.

Weird though (and a bit like the phantom limb scenario), occasionally I reach for the stalk and think about turning it on.

Com'on Ed, everyone's doing it........
