Annual Midwest Spring/Fall Area Meet in Chicago

Lsd is a bit busy though.. Will be time consuming to isolate each car for a shot. I agree the backdrop is killer..

Actually now that I think of it we will probably assign cars to photographers. I thought at first all the photographers would shoot all the cars but that would take too long.

Assuming almost all cars come for the morning meet that's 4 or 5 cars per photographer which to be honest IMO for 1 hour is plenty. We would probably just keep circling LSD.

Andy what are you thinking? You've been quite.

Getting the backdrop to me is worth an early morning. And if u haven't noticed I've been itching photography lately. Those FXs wanting to participate maybe in an earlier run can get a head start so maybe not everyone meets at the same time but based on the photographer type thing.

Ian when does LSD sat start to get busy. And how busy?

I was in Chicago a couple weeks ago for a wedding and man, I don't know how you guys deal with traffic!

And the tolls, oh the tolls. Those stations had me digging pretty deep under my seats in order to find enough silver to pay the Troll aka the City of Chicago. When I opted to take toll-free routes, the roads were absolutely horrendous. This isn't mentioning the parking fees downtown who pretty absurd. $35 for a couple hours is a little steep IMO.

That being said, Chicago is a BEAUTIFUL city! It's definitely a place I can see myself living someday. Lake Shore Drive was very pretty and the skyline was totally a magnificent sight to behold. I REALLY wanted to do a kayak tour through that river that cuts through the middle of downtown but I didn't have much time, although I did get to see and do a lot of the other touristy stuff (Willis Tower, Navy Pier, China Town, Magnificent Mile, Portillo's, The big chrome testicle looking thingy in that park)

I did have a scenario where I had hit a curb late at night near a neighborhood close to Chinatown, got out with my surefire light to take a look, and a menacing looking black guy from across the street started walking towards me saying, "Wow what a beautiful car, I'd love to have it." I'm not sure if his true intention was to complement or something else, but I hurried into the driver's seat and booked it. I had to leave my usual concealed carry in Missouri because of the laws in Illinois, so I definitely felt powerless.

Anyway, I can't make it up this time for the meet, but I will try an make time for the spring meet :smile (2):

It has that SkyDeck observation deck on the 103rd floor. It used to be called the Sears Tower. It was really cool because it had the plexiglass cubes that extend away from the building that makes it seem you're floating in the air.

That was the first thing Karen and I learned when we were in Chicago last year. All of the people that live in Chicago always refer to it as the Sears Towe, they hate that other name.

Is there a reason why they changed the name?

Sears Roebuck hasn't been an occupant of the Sears Tower for many years. The Willis group is the tower's largest renter therfore they negotiated the renaming of the building. Unless they tear it down and build a new one, it will always be the Sears Tower :-)

Two weeks away, do you all think we will have 20 FXes? I really hoping that we would and definitely will make goes down on :iS: history :smile (2):

There is a possible snag in my plans. I've been asked to babysit some engineers for a 'hackathon' the same weekend. Trying to find a replacement.

This thread is so long- what's the date and time??

By the way- I can maybe spare a room if anybody is driving for the meet. I live in Glenview- suburb northwest of Chicago about 15 miles
