There is SO much tar on the body panels from the pot hole repairs here in NYC. Upclose the car looks horrible.

nice, im torn between the D5000, and a D80 now. Is the D5000 worth the extra $ ?
Both are fantastic cameras as far as I know. I haven't tried either one myself, but one thing I've learned in my research is that the body isn't as important as the lens. If you don't have a need for the bells and whistles of the newest model, you are better off spending the extra money on better lenses.
I would personally go with the D80 as I have no need for video, swivel screen, etc. I would easily use the cash for better glass.
Edit: FYI, all of Soon's amazing shots were taken on a D80. I still strive to get shots like his.

. Photographer's skill > type of camera in most cases. Just look at Rich and Soon's sweet pictures. Even Dave is able to pull off all these nice shots with a point and shoot.
