About to jump into an FX...need your wisdom!

Hello all!
I’m new to the whole FX scene. I’m strongly considering getting an FX35. Probably an 05 or newer or maybe a low mileage older one if the price is right. But def the first gen…since I love the way it looks!

I looked at the infiniti maintenance log and they recommend changing the drive belts every 30K miles. Other than that the maintenance seems pretty doable myself. I did have two main questions.

What other issues and problems have you guys come across? Are there any typical issues that tend to present themselves over time?
a.I’ve read about the dirty throttle bodies causing problems…anything else?
b.Im coming from Audi and we had always had the typical problems that many A4s encounter so it was kind of predictable (sunroof malfunction, peeling labels on buttons, faulty window regulators, hose leaks around 60K+ miles etc).

What is the maintenance cost for the used FX?

What issues/problems/pitfalls should I be looking for when evaluating my new FX? I know in Audis they say never buy one that hasn’t had its timing belt changed if its older than 50K miles bc it’s a impending cost…anything like that with the FX?

I start residency in less than a month so I’d like have my car ready to go before the year of torture begins…I’m thinking the only time I may get some relaxation time is when I’m driving to or from work so why not do it in the FX! Your input and wisdom are greatly appreciated.

i bought my 05 with 30k miles a month ago and i just changed my belts for $140 at a private garage. I was gonna get an A6 but there was too much of a risk with stuff that could go wrong. I havent had that same vibe from the FX.

Honestly maint. for the FX's isn't too bad.
Brakes can be done by yourself, (fairly easy) I did my fronts.
Oil, another easy task..
Belts, don't know about.. I also bought an 05 with 30k on it^^ and it's been doing well.

get one with a remaining warranty and buy the extended. then you will have no worries except for the maintenance stuff.

the best part of owning a infiniti is that they loan you a G when you take it in for service. Im sure Audi and other upper end would do, but its sure fun to drive a G once in awhile.

Any common problems to look for?

one common non-mechanical problem is fading window trim. Some dealers will replace it under warranty, some wont.

heres a pic to show what i'm talking about. This is from member 'mtn fx'

you can see how the trim has faded compared to the portion of the trim that was repaired

One mechanical problem another member and myself had was our ignition coils going bad.
I had one go bad, he had all 6

But mine was fixed under warranty, I'm not sure about his.

Thanks thats actually very useful info. Is there a time by which the ignition coils are usually replaced? I didn't see anything mentioned on the infiniti service website

Not that I'am aware of, i'm pretty sure it's a very rare occurrence.
I'm also quite sure it's not too hard to change one.
I was just scared shitless because I had no idea what to expect. lol

I changed my belts myself in about 20 minutes with only a socket set. Didn't need ramps or anything. Belts themselves cost me about 30 bucks if i recall correctly. Other than that I haven't had any major issues, or even minor ones, that I can share. I bought an 04 with 20k about a year and a half ago, and have done about 20k myself. I'm being completely honest when i tell you i look forward to driving this car every single day.
