About hitting the Redline

Hello all,
I've searched throughout this forum about hitting the redline on our FX but nothing came out.
Well, I hit the redline on my FX for a few times or more occasionally.
Some people say hitting the redline is a good thing which will make the motor last longer or healthy and clean up the carbon build up. (That's when you properly maintain your engine)
So I was wondering how hitting the redline will affect on our engine?
I still have the rev-limiter on though so I guess I am safe as long as I don't hold the gear long on the redline?
Addtional question.
When driving in manual mode, the gear does not shift even though the gear is on the redline range. With the rev-limiter, how far can I go on the redline?
However, hitting the redline sure feels good! :)

Don't make it a habbit. I've read that some people have redlined and heard knocking sounds afterwards. Our motors can rev out good but it's not a safe thing to do on a daily driver.

I kinda agree. Don't make a habit of it if you're gonna keep her a while. Just so ya know, the VQ you have can handle anything a stock ecu can throw at the motor. If you flash it and rmove the limiter, you'll need to be a little more cautious. I've seen mine at 8k (tadashi behind the wheel on a test drive) I was a bit concerned. He told me They ran a G at 7500 for 15 minutes before it broke a rod. They're strong . . & then there are the VK boys, with their Indy motors & all the titanium and shit. You V8s must be Hellas strong.

You say hitting the redline feels good. I think you might be referring to it incorrectly. Are you actually hitting the redline and "bouncing" off, or just going WOT all the way until it shifts?

Whenever I use the manual mode the gear does not shift automatically even if I reach the redline.. So I actually hit the redline around 7k or higher

Hmm I guess it can be fun. Scared the hell out of me the one time I did it. Floored it in 2nd at about 60 mph and didn't realize how high in the RPM's I already was because I was passing someone.

But anyways, I wouldn't think that redlining it is any more beneficial than just going WOT.

I usually don't go past redline unless I wanted to go WOT right away and didn't want to shift to manual. Whenever I go to 7k I smell something from my engine. Maybe it's in my head, but who knows. I would just suggest shifting right before redline.

This thread should be called "About hitting the rev limiter". The "redline" is the point at which the tachometer is colored red.

I've hit the limiter before; Accidentally while merging onto the freeway. IMO it wasn't so much fun as scary/embarrassing.

The "cringe" we get is a part of our brains that knows that it's bad. Exceeding redline can be done, but shouldn't be advisable. (That's why it's red - like danger.) A normal street situation should never hit redline. A race situation will often be at redline, but race engines have a much less life expectancy. Use your judgement. It's like eating fried chicken fat every day - probably not the best for a long life.
The factory redline is a RPM gauge point set by 2 things. The torque curve will begin to decrease and you start to exceed recommended conditions associated with on engine's design. With proper modifications, the engine torque curve will be extended and higher RPM's can be safely reached. On a street car of my own (rentals are different), I would never intentionally exceed redline or remove the rev limiter. I'm all for pushing limits, but a hole in the hood from a launched valve is not a cool mod.
Shifting just before redline should be enough of a kick in the pants.

I did a lot of embarrassing "miss shifts" in a loaned G37. It's fun fun fun, then super embarrassing. Everybody in earshot knows.:tonguey:

When i go for a quick launch i just put the pedal all the way down and when i see the rpm get around 6K i just lift my foot a bit so he changes gear and avoid the max rpm in this way.
Like with most cars the last 500 rpm before the rev limiter the engine's performance is not getter higher so imo there is no reason at all to be so high in rpm.
Maybe the engine is designed to go that high but i just don't want to take the risk of making damage.

Better safe then sorry!!

Actually, What's cool about the FX is that there's still power coming at the levels you guys are talking about, & if you need the gear. Unless of course your fuel is being cut off by your limiter. What is it? 6700 or something? p.s. I dont thrash my ride either, but If I need to shift very aggresively, I'll stay near 6500

You could be right. Might be the tune. The red line is a baseline from before the flash.

But even then, it's still pulling at 7000 on the baseline
