a pillar gauge mounts? what? where?

Maybe PM Chinke82 - he has a gauge cluster on the pillar if I remember his pictures correctly.

There's a picture of what you are looking for.

his other thread talks about wanting a i think tranny and oil temperature gauge so most likely not.....

Leave the guy alone, seriously! This is an information thread and you have not contributed anything useful.

If it's a pillar gauge cluster, that's usually three gauges. For FI, transmission temp is usually one of the three.

Could we run G35 A pillar gauge pods? Or maybe try a universal setup and modify it to fit? I used to run 4 gauges on my old car (yes, it was boosted and had nitrous). They didn't make a pod to hold that many, so I took 2 universal 2 gauge pods and molded them into the factory A pillar.

But I do have to ask, why you would want to run a gauge pod mount? If you're not boosted, it's very unneccessary. It's distracting at night; the lights draw your attention. It also blocks your view somewhat at all times. Plus it draws a lot of attention to your car (people will either want to race you or break into your car). Finally, and this is just my personal opinion, if you're not boosted and don't have significant engine mods, it's very poser-ish. There are so many negatives that if you don't absolutely have to have gauges, then you're just doing it for the look. I always found it amusing when I'd see cars with gauges on the pillar and I'd get a closer look. More often than not, it was a voltage gauge, and a narrowband A/F gauge. It's almost as bad as having a 6" tach on an automatic Civic.

......I'll do what the guy couldn've done himself:
plus he has three threads on the same thing.

Here's what a search on this site for "pillar gauge" came up with:
....heres the only thread that came up with pictures:
Mazzur's FX. Scroll down a few pictures and you'll see he just bought generic pods and stuck them on there. His are a clock and voltmeter

Other than Mazzur's FX a few other people have pods but if you them to actually look good then you need to mold them to the a-pillar, unless you want to just stick them on there.
here's where you could buy some (google search)
http://www.autometer.com/
http://www.gaugepods.com/custom.html

you can buy the 350z tri-pod a-pillar gauge cluster but either way you're going to have to make them fit properly. That seems like a bit of work to not have it for FI

did another search...

here's how you can power it

Thanks for your informative replies.
I figure that would be the easiest mount with the best visibility.
Other mounting sites would be less visible and probably require drilling into the dash- thus the A mount. But there may be some issues as Shadow suggests.
Any other mounting sites suggestions are welcome. If you have other setups you've done plz forward.
Yes, it's for oil temp and trans temp for now. Also may add another gauge.

Thanks Jbaker for your efforts on the search. I was not able to find FX specific A pillar mounts in my search. That's why I inquired here, I did not note any mounts except a couple of customized ones. I'd rather not try to customized A mounts for other cars and force fit it.

Thanks for your help, and I'm glad I could entertain you.

Everyone has a right to mod THEIR car as they please. You are not the one that will drive it so if you do not have anything constructive or helpful to say please refrain from unnecessary comments!

manta888, I have also seen a past member with a analog clock on the a-pillar mount. ebay has many plastic universal 2,3 pod mounts.

yeah there aren't going to be any aftermarket FX-specific ones your going to have to fab them up or use a universal...

already posted the link, doc. it's Mazzur that has the clock and voltmeter

Thanks for the helpful replies.
I thought a functional reading of the engine would be helpful. (This is evident with the new Z oil temp overheating issues.) The more advanced cars have more gauges for engine management.
The trans/oil temp gauges are NOT functional in a routine setting? If the yield of the gauge is very minimal, then I think I would pass on them.
What are the negatives from the gauges (leakage?) (besides the distraction and others mentioned?) (Thanks Shadow for your knowledge)
Now I'm wondering our water temnp gauges is needed? If those idiot lights would be OK.
That's the reason of my inquiry regarding the additional gauge measurements. (besides the comic relief for some)

It's not that the transmission and oil temps aren't functional. They're fully functional, I just think you'll find that if you're car is not heavily modified, they'll be very boring gauges to look at. Modern cars have very good cooling systems, you won't see much fluctuation during driving even if you're driving hard. From my experience, even on my old car which had a custom turbo, the oil temperature didn't move much (had an oil cooler). The transmission temp didn't move much either and I was running over twice the stock hp through a nearly stock auto tranny (just had a VB mod and tranny cooler). The only times I noticed any real fluctuations was if I was doing extended highway runs at full boost. I ended up taking out the temp gauges and going to an oil pressure gauge since one of my main fears was blowing an oil line and suffering catastrophic engine failure. I also kept a fuel pressure gauge because I needed it for tuning, an EGT gauge for tuning, and a water temp gauge since I was running the stock radiator/cooling system and wanted to make sure I didn't overheat.

The negatives other than the distractions and increased risk of theft are of course leaks. Basically you're adding another point where something can leak. It's not a big deal, but it can be annoying. Also, the sensors on these things aren't all that reliable. It's frustrating to have to swap them out all the time. This is why I tell people that unless they have to have the gauges, the negatives outweigh the positives.

The idiot lights are ok for most cars, they're just not that sensitive so if you have a highly modded car, by the time the warning light triggers, there may already be damage. Of course if the car isn't heavily modded, they work just fine.

Thanks for the helpful replies.
