93,000 miles - What grade oil should I put?

what do you guys think about the Mobile 1 "Green" 0w-30 oil .Suppose to be more fuel efficient.

Compared to the recommended 5w-30, just a lighter viscosity grade / thinner oil thickness at cold. So 0w-30 flows more easily at start-up hence more "fuel efficient". I'd stick with 5w-30 or 5w-40.

Interesting, good to know. When I used Valvoline 5w-40, I never had to top off my oil between oil changes (3,000-5,000 miles).

5w-30, I have to top it off every 1,500 miles or so.

one of the guys in the miata forums just posted an 18k UOA of Valvoline 5w40 (i have never actually seen this oil in the store), it was truly an amazing UOA. while i am a M1 fan from way back, this oil could make me change horses (if i could reliably find it.

the M1 0w30 is the same vis when warm (it's actually slightly thicker than M1 10w30, but slightly thinner than 5w30) as other 30wt oils. the 0w gets it up in lubrication quicker, and the base oils are slightly better (to get the lower weight). i would recommend it over the M1 5w30 for that reason alone.

wow, you know a lot about motor oils!

My mechanic supplies 5w40 as he uses it on his European cars he services. I have never seen it in stores either, which is why I just buy 5w-30 because it's so dang cheap when it's on sale.

Mobil 1 Carlos, how's it going brother it's beena minute since I've been around here but Mobil 1 is pretty good for me,...my 2 cents

Hey Dee, whats up? Yeah, my mom had surgery so I took some time off work to help her out. I'm back. lol

Thanks for the info. Lots of good info here and so many choices.

At least I have time to think about it.

well I hope all went well with your mom's surgery. I've been out of pocket for a minute myself so I know how that can be when you have other things to take care of. B-EZ and stress free...

i was....

Anyone using 0w/40 mobil 1

while i was unhappy with the UOA, i can't really gripe too much, at 100k i am using no oil at all. it is M1's flagship oil, meets both MB229.5 and Porsche Approval (the only oil to be on both lists). this oil meets every spec that it is possible to meet with the 0w40 vis.

i would never be afraid to use this oil in anything. however, in the 45, i have found that an HDEO seems to work better.

here are the UOAs from the 45. am almost at 10k with the Delvac1. note that the TDT is labelled Delvac1, but that is due to a formulation change, and isn't the same oil that i am using now (technically Delvac ESP 1).

///8477

note the reduced Fe, Pb and Sn with the heavier TDT.
