Got a chance to finally install the covers yesterday. Install was pretty smooth and the whole thing took about 1.5 hours. I'm pretty happy with the fit and quality; it's about 95% as far as fitment and I believe that's pretty good for aftermarket.

Fit and finish:
Almost as good as oem. Need to start at a corner and muscle in the rest of the cover for the best fit. Very small gaps. I'm quite happy with them.

Light output:
Bright Daylight: Front view is minimal, but the side angles are pretty decent. I took some pics from different angles and you can see that it's pretty visible.

Dusk: Looks bright and factory

Night: Pretty bright.

Some pics:

This is the route I took for the wiring. I found a grommet in the side and drilled a hole in the rubber grommet and passed the wire through.. Covered the wires with plastic covering for an oem look. In the pic, the wires are in the smaller black covering.

Some closeups to evaluate fitment:

Various angles:

As you can see in the pics, the quality is very good and fitment is almost oem. The light output from head on is dim, but the other angles are acceptable.

I've got some videos in daylight, dusk and in my garage.... waiting to upload to youtube, but that site is not cooperating at the moment. The vids show off the lights more and I think it looks pretty good.

Looks really good.

By the way, what percent tint is your front windows? =p

Nice looking covers. So how much is your paint job on those covers.

Thanks.. Got them done for $50, but I think you and I got the best deal . Guy was saying that prep was more than he thought so the next ones will be around $80-90. I think they matched the paint quite well.

They look great! Could you tell me more about wiring the lights? I've got the same covers, but haven't installed them yet. Thanks!!

Wire them up to the BCU in the passenger kick panel. When you're looking at it, it's the top left set of wires. You want to splice into the white and orange wires (pins 17 &18), they are right next to each other; white for right and orange for left indicators. Maybe someone here can post a pic from the manual. Wiring from the door to the cabin is as described in my first post; just find that circular rubber grommet and start stuffing in the wires. Then get a flash light and get under the dash and find them and fish them out. I grounded both wires to a bolt on the BCU.

tip: when routing wires in the mirror assembly, it's hard to go through the same harness in the mirror. I just drilled a small hole in the plastic piece that covers up the 3 screws on the base of the mirror assembly pivot. I hope that makes sense, but if it doesn't, it will when you take apart your mirror assembly :)

Good luck!

Hi PMG 705, how did you install the mirror covers?
Did you have to remove the door trim and take apart the mirrors? The 1st gen write up found here: www .infinitifx.org/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=11104 looks like a lot of work and it took two hours longer. Did you do anything different?

Thanks,

The door trim does need to be removed, but you don't need to unclip all the harnesses; just put something underneath the trim to hold it up so it just doesn't hang there.. Removing the trim is as easy as removing about 3 screws and undoing some clips.. If you're pulling hard and it doesn't want to come off, it means you've missed a screw. You will need to take apart the mirror assembly, but it's very easy.. To remove the glass, place a trim remover or screw driver between it and the mirror holder; pry them apart.. Hardest part for me was to find a way to snake the wires into the base of the assembly; I ended up drilling a hole into the circular plastic between the pivot joints of the assembly ( where the mirror fold in and out..) Wiring is as previously mentioned.. It didn't take me a long time to do, but I'm pretty handy and have been working on cars since I've owned them.. Should take anywhere between 1-2 hrs for a novice..

Good luck!

Thanks bert.

Thanks for the tips!

I would love to see a detailed install how to on this.

Answer is below... Pretty detailed right there.. If you can't follow this, then I suggest you get a shop to do it..
