Talk about spinning mass at the wheel, I think Andrew has the lightest 22s setup. I couldn't believe it when I lift the wheel. It feels like nothing. The Rays lug nuts is so freakn' light too. The guys at Discount Tire jokingly commented on whether the Rays lug nuts can hold such a big wheel .

Can either Andrew post the exact location of this Discount Tire? I'm having epic failures with Chicagoland wheel balancers, even if they have the latest Hunter Roadforce machines.

I had to redo all my wheels down in Peoria where I found a custom wheel shop with a tech that KNOWS how to balance -- you would think putting a weight where a laser points to would be easy -- apparently not. I always ask to go to as close to 0 as possible too, and in Chicago, haven't found anyone good.

You should see me try to lift my tire/wheel setup and avoid hitting my big brake kit while mounting. Not a pretty sight, my back is always sore the next day.

I just mounted the summers on my BMW, which I think are 16's -- felt like I could throw them 100 yards.

Are discount tires with not scratching stuff,
do they have the tools and do well with our tire pressure monitoring systems
and about the wheel balancing....Aaron got his scratched up inside the wheel from the infiniti dealer since the weights were hard to remove since they were stock weights but not sure if discount would have done the same

I actually just had a custom set of Forgestar F14's put on my 350z a couple weeks ago at a Discount tire. I explained to them that i waited over 2 months to get these wheels and if 1 scratch, chip or scuff was found I was going to be handing someone their ass. Needless to say, I had the manager of the store out there along with the asst. manager putting new tires on my new custom wheels. I was watching them like a hawk. No impact guns either.

If you explain the situation to them before hand everything should go smooth. Just dont let a stupid teenager put your wheels on.

I didn't have any problem with my install. The guy that did my install was VERY careful. He examine each wheel and run his hand over the surface of the tire changer where it come in contact with the wheel before lay it down. So I guess it all depend on who you get at the chain store.

I would stay away from Y spoke wheels. Don't look that good on FX IMO.

Too late, LOL? :tongue (2):

That was my biggest concern at DT. The store manager oversaw the mounting process and even assisted with the mounting too. They were really careful when they did mine. Overall, I'm happy with my particular DT store. All the DT guys were really excited to work on my car. Something out of the ordinary for them to do that day.

So I learned something new yesterday about my wheels while driving on them. It has been raining a lot this past week and water has collected in the barrel of the wheel. There's no real way of this draining out, unless you let it evaporate or soak it up with a towel. The other day on the expressway, I had a bad vibration going 75+mph. The water in the wheels is causing this imbalance. I contacted Interad and was told this is normal for this design of the wheel for water to collect. I did some online research and found out other manufacturers, like HRE and iForged, have the same issue too. The design is called reverse drop center. The dropped center allows a larger center to be used (diameter) giving the wheel a more open appearance. So I guess it's just an inherent design of the wheel that I will have to accept. I did find that iForged came out with a water diverter that I may look into:

In the meantime, I'm going to use a can of compressed air to blow the water out. Thought I would share this with you guys. Something new that I learned. :alien:

I had the same issue you are talking about with my EXE Image's also and was going to provide the same link but seems like youve done your research already! Never tried it out in the end, but keep us updated!

I can just picture you getting out of the car and drying your wheels with compressed air. I can only imagine the looks you would get.. I guess it's a small price to pay to have killer wheels; still sucks that you would need to go through that though. If you like, I can swap you my 18's :wink (2):

Yep the diverters are stupid IMO.
I had the same deal on my IForged Aeros and HRE 540Rs.

I just never bothered much when it rained. Also when washing your FX you will collect a lot of water there. I just used clean microfiber towels to soak up as much water a possible. Drove a short distance and did the same again. Water is still going to be trapped between the face and the barrel/lip though and will weep out while driving if not completely dry.

Also you would want to clean anything that gets on the lips right away, even if they are clear coated.

Ya, the diverters seem to be too much hassle to get now at this point. I would have to dismount and remount the wheel, so forget it. Maybe when I get new tires, I may look into these again or maybe something new will come out by then. Using a can of compressed air is much easier than using a towel to dry it up, that's for sure!

Added a rolling shot I took yesterday. Andrew, la_fx35 was driving my FX and I was driving his FX taking shots. Still need a DSLR though.
