21's, 20's or 20's on my Wife's FX50 ??? Help... !!!

OK, so we sold my wife's SRT8 about 6 months ago, I FINALLY got around to getting her a new car.. lol.. she hasnt complained to much, because she has been driving the family GTR.

But now that she has her own car now, Brand new 2011 FX50 with tech package, I am a little worried about what rims I should have on the car.

I have the benefit of being a GTR owner, so I have the 20" 2010 Near Black Wheels (in PERFECT condition), a set of 20" Enkei with Blizzacks (have some small blemishes) and of course the brand new 21's that are coming on her 2011 FX50.

Here is my concern. 1st, she lasted about 2.5 years without curbing her SRT8 rims (also bought her this car new), BUT she did eventually curb (albeit not horribly) 2 of them pulling out of a drive through bank teller row. SOOOOO.. I am worried about her ruining ANY of these kick ass rims... BUT I thought hell why not put those GTR specific Enkei 20's on there, because if she curbs them, I wont give a shit.

I guess maybe it comes down to value. What are a set of my 2010 GTR rims (near black, not those cheaper silver ones) worth? Vs the brand new 21's that are coming on the car (again car is brand new, unsold 2011, that is getting delivered next week), I already know what the Enkei's cost..

I guess I shoudl ask, will the Enkeis on the GTR work on the FX50? I know the stock GTR wheels work on the FX50, so wouldnt the Enkeis??

Let me know!

Thanks!

Jon

I'd say stick with the OEM 21" FX50 rims those look the best. But if your going for an agressive look slap the GTR 20's on there. I love the dark color on them!!

By the way FX50 and GTR?? NICEEEE

Yeah, we went from Viper, GTR and SRT8, to FX50, GTR and (still to chose, lambo/ferrari). SRT8 and Viper sold over the summer.

oh, BUT SHE MIGHT CURB THEM... you dont know my wife... she's 25 and more interested in her LV bag not getting dirty, then avoiding scratching a Rim on her car. I gave her a firm talking to after the SRT8 incident, but I still just dont think she 'gets it'

She's a little upset that I am entertaining the idea of taking her 21's off in favor of those 20's Enkeis, but I am not looking to have a beautiful set of rims ruined.

The 21s look fantastic on the FX, I would stick with them. If you don't mind a bit of poke on the rear wheels, the GTR rims are awesome. As to your enkeis, it depends what width, offset and model they are.

i agree with the rest and say stick with the 21" as they do look the best. Sounds like you guys have good accessibility to nice cars! lambo or ferrari?? really? nice. Lucky wife...welll, then again, @ 25 it make's more sense she's more interested in LV bags than curbing wheels...yeah, stick with the 21's.

The above is what I have as my winter set on the GTR. That I want to possibly use on the wife's FX50

So people think the Stock 21's look better then the GTR stock 20's ?? hmmm... Which ones cost less.. lol.. I should have run around on the cheaper ones, so when she curbs one, I don't cry.

Thanks for the feedback folks, I guess maybe if there is enough 'side wall' on the tires, then they will protrude out enough past the rim so that they are protected?

Damn.. I was hoping to 'teach her a lesson' by saying, see cuz you curbed your srt8 rims, you are NOT allowed to have these SWEEEET 21s. lol.

And yes, I live in the City of Chicago, and I have a 2 car lift, it allows me to have a max of 4 cars in the city. I'm pretty lucky in that regard, but its still no fun pulling in and out of the alley with a low to the ground car.

They will look great. I say that because I am also running the gtc 01s for my summer wheels but mine are narrower at 8.5" and 40 offset.
I love mine and with your offsets and width, I think they would look killer.

Yeah, I love your paint color jbaker, got the wife's in black, so probably my black GTR rims would look great on it, that 'bulge' on the rears gotta kick up a lotta rocks. At least I have the mudflaps on the car (I didnt ask for them, they just came with them).

I can at least put them on and see how I like them, although both sets of rims I have come with the low profile GTR tires..

hmmmm..

Oh, side question, are the brakes on the Fx50 any better then the brakes on the fx35? They must know that your going to be going faster, so you need to stop quicker :) I hope its more then just an engine and transmission upgrade.

You'd think I would know more about a car I bought, but this is kind of how I am, I buy something and figure it out after the fact. Loved the look of an fx35 I saw, but I HAD to have the largest motor they had for it, which in this case is the fx50.

The FX35 comes with standard brakes. The FX50 comes with 14 inch rotors with a Akebono big brake kit setup. The front is 4 piston calipers and the rear is 2 piston I believe.

If you got the sport package on the FX50 (something not offered on the FX35) you get the sport style front seats with the thigh extenders and electronic side bolster adjustments. You also get the tinted headlights and dark chrome. One more thing you get in the sport package is the adaptive suspension to adjust it from sport to comfort. I think it's similar to the Bilstein damptronic shocks on the Nissan GTR.

We got the technology package. Because thats what the car came with, but after the fact, my wife prefered the technology package over the sport because she doesnt want it for sportiness, she wants it for driveability so all that cruise control stuff and safety braking and all that is what really got her excited. For me, sure I'd rather of had ths sport package. Its odd that you cant order both, because given the option I would have said 'yes' to both.

Jon

Thats wierd I know you can get the sport and tech package together. JDtrader on here has it on his FX50 and a few others.

I have the tech package myself. Trust me you'll love all the gizmos in it.

Get on line, and try to do sport package and technology package, they are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE, you can only have one. I think you are talking about the premium package and the technology package, that is true you can get those on the FX35, but on the FX50 they ALL come with premium package, so you dont get to chose it.

Again, go to infiniti.com and try to build an fx50 with BOTH Technology AND spot package.. it cant be done.

Ok I just did it and your right. That means they took it away for the 2011 and up model year. Because on the 2009-2010 models you could option the sport and technology package together. Infiniti has done alot of switching around with options and packages in the past year or two so it doesn't surprise me lol.

That's crazy....I like the sport package equally as I like the tech package. I hope they start making both combinations again in 2012 or in the future. That stinks!

Jon, post some pictures up of your past and current cars...you know we love cars! :)

that sucks really love the sport ...its a night and day difference with it on and of for me guess its the bad roads we have in brooklyn.

Curious, I looked on line at the listing for the car I bought, and it oddly enough says 20 inch wheels, but I thought all FX50's came with 21's ? Maybe its a mistake on their listing, or am I wrong, and they are only 20s ? Did all FX50's come with 21s or 20s? Did they change from 09-12 at all? I know there is a special edition 2012 version that has different rims.
