2015 QX70 ( 5.0L no more )

Smaller displacement + FI seems to be popular these days. Would be like the Juke but with a bigger engine and better powertrain in general. (In that it's a tuneable FI engine from the factory)

^ I agree. The gov push and trend is for efficiency. I wouldn't be surprised with the introduction of a supercharged 3.2. And not an attractive performance vehicle. (pure speculation here)

Honestly, I think either a diesel or hybrid powertrain (like the Q50) will most likely be the next option. Both would have nice torque numbers and better fuel economy but I would miss that growl. :(

This is incredible news! I am definitely ordering a 2015 QX with the 21's! Moonlight white on Java here we come!!!!

Oooh a hybrid would be very interesting, would make me consider I think since they usually go the route of more power and a little better mileage, as opposed to great mileage and minimal performance. They already have (had) the FX30d diesel, though it was a European model I believe.

The fact that the 5.0 is not used in any other Infiniti model makes it an easy decision for Nissan to drop it. I imagine there will be the NA V6 and also a turbo'd V6.

wow, this is surprising. I hope they will eventually introduce an IPL or other type of QX70 replacement to compete against the AMG, M, etc. Fine don't do a V8 but you better come with a better performance package if you are doing this. I'd be really really disappointed in Infiniti if they didn't especially since they are so pro performance.

7th year of this body style means I'll have to wait. Nice that my ride is still the current body style. They really need to offer something that is a screamer and I say turbo like everyone else is doing. We shall see I guess. I will be in the market for a new car next spring.

I really wish they would just tone down the GT-R's engine and put in the next Gen...maybe as the top of the line performance model.

The general trend of the industry suggests they will downsize, but who knows.

Agreed, the going trend now is smaller engines with turbos or just keeping it at the 3.xL range. Gas is going up and electric cars are moving in slowly as well.

There's a big change coming and we're in for the ride. Gas isn't getting cheaper that's for sure...

Haha indeed but I would be interested to review the erosion of the performance after a full track day (given the hybrid poweretrain)... Then again, different technologies bring different driving styles...

I agree but Infiniti will be leaving the V8 fight against the other sporty SUV *cough* Cayenne S/ GTS *cough*

The gearhead in me would prefer the 5.6 V8 since it is already in the M56 and bring a diesel for the gas sipper out there (you know who you are...).

Hybrid technologies in an already heavy car makes me cringe...a 5000+ QX70 hybrid would likely not be much more efficient...given the weight and our lead foot tendencies :smug:

I would say pro performance on paper. The last 5 years or so have been quite disappointing besides the M56. The Q50 is no longer a dynamic leader in the segment, the VQ is long in the tooth and the German duo is pulling giving some trouble (335/S5 with the boosted engines). Although I must say that it is mainly the S5 that is giving everything else trouble given the strength of the motor and the AWD system.

We have all seen the Q50 Eau Rouge but with the same 7 speed gearbox...nah...I am not so sure of the combination unless it is reinforced and the shifts speed improved. I am eager to know the exact AWD system used. Again, if I want a gussied up Q50s, I will buy a regular one and order a supercharger from Stillen or GTM, no?

But then, this is just my opinion, what makes you think Infiniti is so pro performance? Just curious, no hooks in my question.

^ 75% of Infiniti's advertisements talk about inspiration and performance. They live on it. That's why they just hired Sebastian Vettel arguably the best Formula One World racer to be in charge of Director of Performance at Infiniti and for many years help them sell their performance brand. Watch videos from Shiro Nakamura Senior Vice Present of design and brand management. Watch videos from Johan de Nysschen Present of Inifiniti and Alfonso Albaisa executive design director of inifiti. All the videos I've watched in the past 2 years from them speak they emphasize how critical and important performance is to their brand. That's why this was a shocker and/or something HUGE in the making that we will be all surprised with down the pipeline.

Oh yeah, I agree on the marketing side of things but I wonder if that really translates in the reality of their product lines. Let's face it, the Q50s is no better by any measurable standards (0-60, 1/4 mile, braking, slalom, skidpad, your pick) than a 2010 G37s. Seriously, in my opinion, if the sportiest offering beside the now defunct QX70 5.0 is the Q70 5.6... is performance really that present in the product line?

I am not dissing Infiniti as I love their products but I fail to see the performance improvements in the last 5 years...

My 2 cents,
-Yeti

You're absolutely correct. None of their current products are much more exciting or sporty than something from 5-10 years ago. They have made lots of awesome technological changes, and of course visual ones. Nissan is kind of doing the same thing though, with the 370Z not being much different from the 350Z. At least they have the GTR that seems to still be improving. Would be great to see a GTR-esque car from Infiniti as well.
